I was at the junk yard and was looking at 67 or 68 cutlass with a 350. It had no. 5 heads. What I was wondering about is a cover in the center of crank pulley??

 

'68 had them for sure. I believe '66 and '67 too.
Not sure about '69, but I think they were gone by '70.

It's always amazing how clean everything is under that cover.

I've only seen them on 1968's both the 350 and 400. But I agree Eric, if someone wanted to match the original paint that would be a great place to check it.

My 68 Hurst (455) has it too. I almost threw it out when I got the car because I did not know what it was.

 

I suppose you are speaking of the gravel guard on a three groove pulley. If it fills up with heavy stuff, the pulley will rust out and your belts will fall off... I found those covers on full size cars as well.
