Hi!I had my Rochester 4 bbl rebuilt for my stock 1972 Olds 350 by Ken at Everyday Performance and it looks great. In the box was a gasket for between the carb and the intake, the black paper-like material that is common to most applications. A while back, I ordered a gasket online, before I knew I'd get one from Ken. That one is quite thick, maybe 1/4" and is of a rigid material. Which one do I use for a bone stock setup?

I like the thick gaskets, they hold up well and help insulate from the heat. I was very happy with my carb from Everyday Performance.

 

X2 on thick one.

 

So the thicker gasket won't affect the carb at all by moving it 1/4" further away from the intake?

Chris, I think the fel-pro 1905 4 hole spacer is a good choice on a factory intake. It keeps the venturi's separated like the stock gasket but is 1/4" thick. Longer bolts may be required if you use washers under the bolt head. Good luck.

I always use the thick Fel Pro gasket that has plastic(?) discs at the bolt holes to prevent over compressing the gasket. It's fairly thick and doesn't have any negative impact on bolt engagement, throttle linkage, etc.

 

 

Use only one gasket with no sealer.
I would use the thicker gasket with the large oval secondary opening. Those have been around and have worked well for, well, since before I was selling them at the parts house I worked at in the 80s.

 

You need the thick one, no sealer. Was the gasket sent to real thin? If so that sounds like the one that goes between the two carb pieces.

 

There are a number of different "thick" gaskets, with different cutouts depending on the application. Be sure you get the correct one for your carb and intake, otherwise you will have a vacuum leak.
