belts en pulleys

Hello all,

A question from Holland again....

I think I've to chanche the belts of my Cutlass '75 4drs Saloon 350.
The PS belt is squealing and the car feels shaking when I turn the steeringwheel. ( mostly when I steer left and the car is standing still or drives very slowly)

Can you give some advise, how to chanche the belt(s)
Do I've to replace the pulleys and other belts also ?
And with belts (brand /type) do you recommend me.
I can't find any numbers or what so ever, so I don't know what to order.

I hope you can you help me, again.

From Holland with love.
Wally

The shaking you feel in the steering wheel is from the power steering pump, either the belt is slipping (verified by the squealing sound) or possibly the pump is low on fluid or both. If there is no evidence of leaking fluid then you probably just need a new belt. I found this site that you should be able to order the belt from. According the Gates website (manufacturer of the belt) you would need part number 7450 which is the second from the bottom. You will have to loosen the power steering pump mounting bolts which will allow the power steering pump to swivel in enough so you can remove the power steering belt. Be sure to clean the pulley surfaces well to remove any grease or fluids that are causing slippage before you install the new belt.

Inspect your motor mounts as well.

Both Oldsguy and J-(Chicago) thanks for your replies.
I can order the Gates 7450 belt in Holland but it seems to be that there are two 7450 belts: 1) V-Belt;Fan & PS ; w/AC,1 Per Veh; Years: 1973-1975 and 2) V-Belt;Fan & PS ; w/XC,1 Per Veh; Years: 1973-1975,
My car has a non-working Airco, so I've to choose 1 ???

Thanks,
from Holland with love

If you take the old belts to your local parts store they should have a tool to measure them. That way you will get the same size belt as you now have.
