Does anyone know what the stock cam in a 78 403 is? Comparable to new cam numbers. Just curious? Can't seem to find this information online. Thanks.

 

I think if you go to summit and look up a 403 cam, Melling sells a stock replacement so that will have the specs. The duration is very small as is lift. I think it's done on a 114 lsa.

 

Pathetic. It is 190ish duration and .400" lift, get something else.

 

I was just looking to compare the cams that I am looking at with the original cam. I don't know a whole lot about cams, but I want to compare specs. Thanks

 

I am no expert but the stock cam was all about smooth idle and emissions. The stock 455 smog cam is better, closer to 200 duration and .435" lift, similar to the Vin 9 307 and early 350 manual trans cam. Talk to Cutlassefi(Mark Remmel), he does many custom cams plus off the shelf. I am getting a custom for my 350 form Mark.
