371 J2 engine - bent rod - any ideas??
Hi Fellows Olds lovers - im new to the forum
I live in the UK and currently re-building a 371 J2 engine, from from i can tell its a 1958
my latest hold up is i've discovered one of the rods is bent, not much, but its bent.
My machine shop says they wont risk trying to straighten it, either not confident they can or it will last any time in the engine post straightening.
Ive of course posted a wanted ad on the forum but open to any other suggestions to sort this.
i found a 1959 394cui rod but belive the journal sizes are larger on these rods??
from what i can fathom, on 57/58 371 rods will work?? is there any other solutions?? similar rods from other years/makes??
any help much appreciated.
Paul.

According to the Olds parts book 57 and 58 rods stand by themselves . Part number is 568814.
' 59 & up have larger journals , 56 and back are shorter.
Have you tried putting a parts wanted ad on this websight ?
Also try Hemmings Motor News.

The Oldsmobile Club of America has a strong 1957 chapter. I'd advertise in Journey with Olds. You can join here: www.oldsmobileclub.org

Call Tony at Ross Racing. I guarantee he will have it and he is a good guy. Here is the link:

Welcome to the forum Paul, there are several UK members here, unfortunately I don't think any of them run a car of the same vintage as yours.
However you are at the best site to get help and advice here imo. Sorry I can't be more helpful this time.
Roger.
