finally found a site where there's some ACTION.

Attached is a pic of my Cutty LS sedan with a tender V6. It's got 110 hp I think (not 100% sure but the dealer believed so)

It's a 1981 and in pretty good shape.

However, I feel that it can offer more than meets the eye. I was thinking of what I can do to improve the engine or carb, ignition system, coil or alternators.....

Any ideas or thoughts are most welcome !

 

I don't know if they make too much for the V6, but you could try looking at www.summitracing.com and see what they have

 

would you recommend a new MSD ignition system ?

 

If your car runs now, I wouldn't recommend it. Your existing HEI probably works just as well. People like to use ignition upgrades (like MSD) on engines that have been built up and orginally had points style ignition but like I said, you car already has HEI.

 

Doesn't matter whether you use points or HEI. MSD will not give you any increase in power.

However, as an under hood dress up item, I understand it is well worth the money.

After just idling 5 mins, and I rev the engine some times....the engine is really too hot , why is this ? Is there a leak somewhere ?

I could swear I smelled some exhaust in the engine compartment (Im not familiar with what should smell and what not....

 

Hi. Hot engine is iether, low coolant, thermostat, or no fan shroud. Does it overheat when driving, or just sitting? Let us know. jim.

it hasn't overheated on me yet. It gets really hot after just a short drive. It might be normal but I really don't know for this type o' engine (V6, 231CID)

 

Well, if you smell exaust in the engine compartment, is your a.i.r. system functional/complete. If a hose is missing, then exaust will leak into the engine compartment.

 

any ideas as to what rims I could put on here ?

 

There are some factory rims that look good. The olds SSII and SSIII look good on g-bodys.

As a thought, If you can find one, a turbo regal/GN engine should drop right in, seeing how it's the same block, and it's in the same body style car.

 

you wanted to know how you can improve your engine and you say its a 231
did you know the buick grand national and GNX use that motor. if there is one your junk yard start swapping parts especially the heads hell the whole motor if you can and don't worry about your rims just yet you'll get more enjoyment out of your car if you spend the money to make it go than if you make it show besides it looks like you have the makings of a wicked sleeper

It is indeed the 231cid V6, and it kicks dust on the highway for sure

Dunno about switching engines is possible just yet, I mean the government wants a clue as to what Im doing with it - and a change in the engine compartment will leave me with loads of paperwork and I gotta show it to the certified workshop for approval (it sounds rediculous, and it is - but then again it's Norway we're talking about)

I'll stick to adding and/or removing smaller parts up front.

Right now Im looking at suspension
