This sounds great. Yeah, the nice part of the new Edelbrock heads you can build your motor with iron heads and switch down the road if you want more power. What are your power goals? Are you going roller or staying flat tappet? Something like cheaper roller tip rocker arms isn't a bad idea for your iron heads, unless they have been upgraded to 7/16" studs. I have two sets of 3/8" rocker arms, neither set will be used on the Edelbrock heads.

Who's doing your machine work. Borowski who machined my current sbo won't touch anything but high end stuff now. I have used opel engineering in stream wood. And all the machine shops in Addison shutdown. I'm looking for options as I'm building another sbo soon. I know you are in the RFD area. Good luck with the build.

You’ll have fun with it. You’re not going to believe the difference the Stroker kit makes, even with iron heads.

Yeah it seems things are backed up everywhere ., once I'm ready my first call will Opel engineering but interested in reaching out to your guys if they are too backed up. I just need machining done and hope someone can fit it in. It seems the machine shops I used in the past are pretty much gone or the old timers are just hanging out having younger guys do the work. Keep us posted on the build.

Just getting started on one myself. Customer bought the stroker kit from Mark. Here is a picture of his block after cleaning. I will ask him if he doesn't mind and Ill post some pics during the build.

Nice! I saw the dyno runs on their Facebook page. Should be a blast to drive. I'm finally getting close to a rebuild so I'm doing my homework for an engine combo and shop to do the build. How was your experience with CPMotorworks?

I'm leaning toward a stroker small block, but I'm not opposed to a mild big block either. My car is a cruiser that I enjoy beating on. Drive it to work, out of town,1,500 miles on Power Tour etc... Drag race or autocross just for fun. 3.73 gears and a 5-speed manual trans. Whatever I decide, it will have aluminum heads and Sniper EFI.

Current engine is a stock crank & rods small block originally built by Greg Godon, then Milan did a roller cam swap (Erson 226/234 .584) and installed Edelbrock heads. That was a while ago, and I bought the heads used... they may even be the first generation Edelbrock heads. Probably around 400hp. From your results looks like I could even re-use the cam in a stroker and make great power. Maybe I need to contact Mark on stroker kit availability...

Nice discussion, thank you all for that.
I’m using mostly Molnar rods now for two reasons, the Eagles are hardly ever available, and the Molnars are better out of the box. Eagles almost always need to be reconditioned.
Nick, bag the idea of going with the Sniper, not a good choice. 3 out of the last 5 I’ve done have had some sort of failure. Do the Terminator X or stay with a properly tuned carb.
Logan's build is done, made 488/518. But as some of you know, that was a redo. He changed his hp goal midstream so I had to go back and do a lot of things over again, ie headwork, flat tappet to roller etc.
But as I’ve mentioned many times, it’s pretty cool to have BB numbers out of a “small block”. They run great.

That's so impressive Mark, wish I would have picked up a crank from you, but I will be happy with my numbers when the build is done, I just need those new sb heads so I can finish the top end up and get it on a dyno.

Mark - I've already got a Sniper unit, it was from the original batch (5 years ago) with the first round of ECU issues that killed a handful of O2 sensors. I worked through those issues and it's been fine for 4 years, with the exception of a TPS going bad. Long term plans are MPFI, that being said a middle of the road upgrade to Terminator X Stealth is something I would consider doing while the engine is out, since it can be further upgraded to multiport down the road.

I'd like to get some suggestions on a build direction, I have a few thoughts on how I'd like to proceed but it gets a little cloudy since my current engine has some good parts on it that could be used in a stroker build. Do you prefer PM's or email?

Glad to see this build get finished. Good luck on finding a car. Yeah, I should have just unloaded my 50 year old 330 cranks and went the stroker route as well. By the time you grind one and throw 5 pieces of Mallory in one, the cost isn't much different.

This is Mark's (cutlassefi) site, no pricing though. You have to contact him for that.
