Please read my earlier post on the #6 heads, in THIS SAME thread. If anyone claims that all #6 heads have the big valves in them from the factory, I will gladly drop a small valve #6 head on your big toe.

I can send pictures to anyone who doubts this fact.

It just came up a new engine on the local "graiglist" a 66 425 from a toro (385hp) i still dont really know if its a runner (i mailed him and still waiting for an answer) but it looks quite ok and is maybe a good candidate because of all internal forged stuff they had.How is it with those cam bank angles is it 39 or 45 on those?The reason i seem so desperate for an engine is because my wife is preagnat with our second child and when the time comes i would not have any spare time in the garage to finísh the car before summer.

The 425 has the 39 degree bank.

 

That would be a decent candidate, but he definitely wants a premium price for it. It should go for that $ rebuilt.

If it actually is a 66 Toro engine, it will have a 39 degree lifter angle, but a larger .921 lifter, which is getting a bit harder to find replacements for. This engine differs from all the other 425 Oldsmobile made.

See if you can work him down from his lofty price.

Well if its a good runner i was thinking make a base rebuilt,change all the gaskets bearings a better cam hone the cylinders and a pair of headers

 

Due to the vintage of the engine, I would be most concerned with:
***Head gaskets***(if leaking, check for cracks in cylinders)
**Timing chain**
garbage from the timing chain in the oil pickup
plugged oil returns in the heads

With a fresh set of heads, AND the stock cam, THIS ENGINE should be able to get your car into the high 12's, with a performance gear, and a 2300 converter. Pretty dog gone good power if you ask me.

Check condition, and do what needs to be done.

Offer him 1500, but only if you think it has never been overheated, or frozen in winter.
If it has, pass on it.

After a lot of searching and thinking i desided to put some extra$$ and build a brand new motor,talked to Mark here from this forum and he is gonna build me a full roller 455 with alot of juice Big kudos to him and his will to help me out deciding the most bang for the buck combo.Thanks also to everyone else for all the tips i got
