Original White Walls
#6
Just wondering if the white walls are wide or pinstripe? In all the original advertisements I've seen of my 71 98 the car always had pinstripe or double pinstripe white walls. Plus, are the tires radials or bias ply?

Here they are in this pic. They have still got heaps of tread, but are rock hard & cracked, I have all the original hubcaps, so will sandblast & powder coat the rims, & get new tires to match. I'm just trying to work out if the mileage on the speedo is correct or not, the guy I purchased the car wasn't very helpful on the history of the car, he hadn't got the full story from the Po. Car has very low miles, & going by front end, brake drums & discs etc. seems to be correct, so thought they might be the original tires, but doesn't sound like it, car was originally purchased by U S Navy.

Generals and BF Goodrich were generally fitted to Olds in those years and the standard tire would have been bias-belted. Radials were optional.
What would really make that big four-door hardtop pop would be a set of Super Stock IV Polycast wheels as seen here on a 1971 88 coupe. They're 15x7 and 5x5 bolt circle so will fit your car like they were made for it.
Though looking close your 88 is right-hand drive, so I'll assume you're in OZ? If so SSIV may be expensive to get.

The Goodyear Steelgard GR70-15 is now available in white stripe. The tire would be equal to a 225/70/15. The stripe on that tire is about a 3/4" if memory serves correct. Contact me for pricing on this Goodyear reproduction radial.
