Fresh chrome front bumper: now scrap

Fresh chrome front bumper: now scrap
My bumpers were off my car when I bought it. It came with two sets. Evidently some ******** cut off the original tabs on the bottom and welded these on. Of course they don’t line up. $800 down the *******.

Something just doesn't look right... It almost seems that the tab is bent in the wrong direction... Do you have a better view of the overall bumper in relation to the tab??? It's hard to believe the tab was cut off and re-welded... Since the bumpers were not on the vehicle when you purchased it, are you sure the brackets are correct and in the correct location...

I agree, something doesn't look right. If he would post a picture showing it from a distance, maybe we can figure it out. That tab has not been cut and welded. What year is the bumper?

The car came with 2 sets of bumpers. I kept the other ones and looked last night. I don't know if it was my chrome shop or someone back the in the day modified the tab, but the non reworked ones look more like the ones in the FSM with a tab that is part of the bumper going vertical towards the hood if on the car. For some reason that upward tab is gone on mine. I don't know why anyone would have done this back in the day and then gone through the task of putting it in the wrong spot.

No, I’m not sure. The bumpers and brackets were off the car. My dad has a 67 and said his bumpers have that piece that comes up. The 67 assembly manual shows that too.

The 66 & 67 brackets look a lot alike but will not interchange. Before you do anything,I would find a known correct 67 bracket to check.

Post a picture of the front of the bumper or does it have a single oval opening in the middle of the bumper or two openings on both sides of the tag area?

I can do either 66 or 67 brackets. 67 lower bumper tabs do not look like that.
Do you have incorrect bumpers? If you post a picture or pictures of the bumper so we can see the entire thing from both sides that would help to help you.
I will post a picture of my 67 lower bracket to bumper

Larry my dad confirmed his 67 bumper has that rise in it like the one in the picture. I also googled a 66 442 and I definitely don’t have a 66 front bumper. My openings are clearly 67. This leads to two conclusions.
1) my chrome shop did something
2) someone in the past did for whatever reason and modified the bracket

The rises in the bumper dip back down again and don’t continue along the lines of the filler between core support and bumper
No sharp line. Bolt hole in wrong spot
Tabs not centered for support
Well the bumper is scrap. I honestly believe now after really looking at my bumper and then the other core bumper at my shop; that the chrome shop gave me the wrong bumper back.
1) the groove where the rubbers fit against the fender is way too tight, the “V” is way too acute
2) this center support where the bumper attaches to the hood release support has no mounting holes (see pictures)
3) and most obvious is the sharp lines of the 67 bumper are not on this freshly chromed bumper. (See pics).
Million dollar question is whose bumper did I get and what car does it fit.

Called the chrome shop today and went over there with my other 67 bumper and that one. Obviously not the same, the owner was out until Tuesday but the guy there said they'd likely chrome my other one free of charge. Oddly no one has brought back mine.

I brought the fresh bumpers to my house and stuck them in the basement. Left the newspaper on them for quite awhile. The other bumpers I left at my auto repair shop upstairs in storage. I dropped off two 67 sets at the chrome shop that day last year and took the crummier ones back to my shop.

I'm not sure anyone else has the "*****" to say it but read your original post. (some ********) apparently did not do anything, And it is as simple as you did not check it against the other bumper you had. Yes the shop made the mistake of giving you the wrong bumper. But, Gee lets just start calling everyone a name and blaming and on and on.
I hate when people do this. Thought you should be told. It was hard to help you as you were reluctant to give us the picture all asked for to see the bumper not small parts of it.
I know you will get all pist at me now and make comments about me. But, the point is; research with a positive result out come in mind, is better than going off on someone.
Just my 2 cents
