I used this one on my 70. It was a conversion so I had no original to compare it to but it does fit and function like it should.

For 70-72 the Original Dual gate cable is 29.7 inches eye to eye and 30 inches over all. This was measured from an NOS cable and matched a used original perfectly. Where you can run into a problem is if the housing is to short or to long making the cable travel off. You can run out of adjustment room if this happens with a repop cable.

Thank you guys
Jensen I read a write up you did a couple years ago on this. Tnx

4 speed: I bought that one, 1 from opg, 1 from parts place, 1 other place

out of the 4....the 2 ones in the pic are the same.

The stock one I have is the 30 total length.

The issue is the connection point that holds the cable sleeve. It's exactly 1inch shorter than the 2 new ones ( other 2 were advertised as fitting but not close).
I added the 2 pics to show, does something not look correct?

Maybee it's a transmission mount off a different car?. One that would put the connection like confront of the kickdown solenoid would work...

First though maybee the shifter was mounted in the wrong spot. But there's no other holes, consol lines up, and if the shifter was 1/8th in closer to transmision,, it would be impossible to get the cable through the holes..😞

Not sure if these pictures will turn out right, may be to small. Not sure they are going to help but I had them on the computer. It looks like you have the right bracket. I think you have the clip on the shifter side upside down but that is not causing your problem.

No slack at all
Lines up with you pick of the floor body seem
my dad has a 442, dual gate, seems like there's a little wiggle room with the cable.
this cable, longest out of 4 made, it's very tight, and 1in short on the mounting, the cable is 30in

It appears that they have sent you a non dual gate cable. The dual gate cables are longer compare to the non dual gate cable. Was your original cable broken?

I have no idea about the dual gate cable, but it seems to me that the total length of the cable is only one aspect of this. I would also think you would need to insure the black outer casing is the correct length. Am I thinking correctly?

Thanks Joe
I bought 4 "duel gate" so far
The one in the pic is 2 out of the 4 i got that is "correct".

I can measure but the stock one i have ( its very stiff, i soaked it for 2 months over winter, didnt free it up) It is 30in like the aftermarket ones. BUT the issue is the mounting sections are 1in shorter than stock (said above i bought 4 different kinds, theres no others made)

The body lines match, the console / crossmember mach to my dads car..
Im really at a loss...

I can fab a transmission mount so its 1in longer making the cable work..BUT feel like i shouldnt have too, would put it infront of the kickdown....SOOOO somethings fucked LOl

Exactly,
So....My cars fucked lol...Or every duel gate shifter cable is fucked and no one buys them as of recently?...Like said above ive bought 4 cables, 2 30" ones were way off not the length but the black outer casing. The other 2- same 30" but black outer 1in short (actually 2 were out by 1/4in)..

Heres what I got:

Original dual gate cable is 30-3/8 total length eye to eye.
17-1/2" of casing from flare to flare
7-1/2" where rubber boot is.
