Hi! I recently purchased a set of three Sunpro mini 1 1/2" gauges from the 1990's new in the box for oil pressure, volts, and water temp. I wanted to mount these inside the clock housing of my 1972 cutlass and was wondering if anyone had ever done this before? Looking for ideas. Figuring I could do it in a triangle pattern but wondering how I would fill in the empty areas and how I would attach them to the clock housing? Anyone have a photo of how you set up your gauges?

Just drew it out on paper that's a tight fit anyway you look at it. If you can get all of them in a 3-1/2" hole I'd start by making a template out of light aluminum, cut to 3-1/2", then mark up all three 1-1/2" holes and drill out the center of each to 7/8". Borrow or rent and electricians punch set. Careful, the size you want is 1-1/4" which is a trade size and closer to 1-1/2". Punch each out staying perfectly in the lines. Paint it black, install the gauges. If they fit, take a dummy plate from the A-body dash, cut the back off that, and pop the gauges in there. Problem I see is the dummy gauge is most likely going to be smaller than the space you need. I don't have one handy to measure it so I can't give you that info. If it is in fact to small then trace it around the mounting holes of the dummy gauge and just use the aluminum plate. If it's a 68-69 dash then cut a piece of plexy same size as the hole and push it in the void. If 70 -72 you will need to manufacture something to hold the plexy lense.

FWIW, Here are some pics of Sunpros in a 68-69 clock blank. These look to be 1 3/4" guages and 3 will definitely not fit. The smaller ones may or may not fit.

The clock blank had holes drilled to fit the gauge face and the back of the pod was hacked up and brackets fabricated to work.

I liked the look but replaced the clock pod with a tic-toc-tac.

You might be able to use the gauge blank that filled the tach/clock hole. Here's a pic.

Hi cdrod. Thanks for the suggestion. I had one originally and then I replaced it with a non-working clock and I'm not sure what I did with my blank. Was it metal or plastic?

CROD what are the inside dimensions I couldn't find mine to give him the info.

Chris I just thought of another option. W70442 makes a unit that goes under the dash to mount various accessories, see if he can make something that will work for the gauge insert in your dash. Doesn't hurt to ask.
