Canton oil pan, what should the dipstick read?

I currently have just under 5.5 quarts, the dipstick is about halfway below add. What are you guys with this pan using for oil? I filled the filter so it should be pretty close. This is a Spectre chrome replacement, not the pan mounted dipstick. Thanks in advance.

Put 6qts in. If the dipstick is at the 'add' mark, that's your new 'full'. You can cut the appropriate amount off the tube to put the stick down further if you feel the need.

Good idea. Yeah, I looked at Canton site and on Summit. Summit had 5 quarts and a note at the bottom saying 5 quarts plus the filter. I actually split the top of dipstick tube with a punch to prevent the end from getting mushroomed installing it. It split only a little, seems like the perfect solution with a tubing cutter. I am using the smaller Wix 51258 filter, the big one won't fit with these headers.

there isn’t anything worse than splitting the end of your dipstick

I wasn't too happy about, will measure and cut the the level on the stick. It didn't puke oil out the crack during the 20 minute cam break in today. I should have Aviation sealant or a thin layer of RTV on both sides of the pan gaskets. I could see seepage all around from just dumping the 5QT of break in oil jug in the valley. I will peak and see how much flung around during break in.

Oil pressure was great, nearly 75 psi at 2000, 40 at 1000 rpm hot. There is a mild tick that comes and goes. Fan controller died, I had to shut down due to heat and the serpentine belt shredding. Honestly the tick could even be the plugs in the crossovers, may have ground them too much. I will pull the valve covers eventually and check for play.
