Went bracket racing last weekend

After chasing vibrations all last season it was finally time for some racing (vibrations aren't all gone but what the hell...).

So, I went to Tallhed Spring Open last weekend (here in Sweden). This was my first licensed bracket race and my first real 1/4 mile race as well.

I was pretty nervous at first and started with a red light plus bad shifts - 14.03 @ 98 After this I got things pretty much under control and ended the day as No. 5 qualifier out of twenty cars. Best time was 13.89 @ 98.

As eliminations began the next day I dialed in at 13.89. Cut a pretty good light at 0.036 but the car went 13.84 (it felt fast down the track but I didn't want to lift ). Fortunately, the other guy broke out worse so I got the win.

Next round, more of the same. I set the dial-in at 13.84, reacted at 0.034 and went 13.80. Once again, the other guy broke out harder.

For the third round I dialed in at 13.80, cut the light at 0.027 and the car kept going faster - 13.78 @99! The other guy broke out more so I won again

As you probably have guessed, everyone was having problems with their cars going faster and faster...

For the semi final I set the dial-in at 13.78 and went 13.7828 @ 99! BUT the light was red at -0.0175...

Anyhow - third place out of twenty and new PB. I was definitely one of the slowest cars there but it was a blast!

Good for you. Consistency is harder than many people think. Find your "spot" in each lane and line up there every time. I preferred lining up to the right of center in either right or left lane. My thought was the left lane opponents cars blew dust into the left side and center of the right lane. I lined up as far right as possible.
Make a note of the approximate time of day and temperature and the E.T. to use as a guide for the future. You may be able to adjust your dial in with more accuracy.
People who have a quicker car get nervous watching a slower car. Do everything in a routine and don't deviate. It will make a difference as everyone gets better.
Nice Cutlass, what engine, transmission and rear end gears are you using ?

13.78 is very fast for a street car. Nice idea with the tarp in the pits. Your car looks sharp!

Thanks! Yes, the tarp is required here. Beats working on gravel!

am I the only one who looked at the speedo and thought that I would like to have one like that, recalibrated to work with MPH instead of KM/H??/

Awesome car and great build, as the others had stated!

Way to go on the bracket racing!
