True that. And looking back through the thread, there are a ton of pics that won't load on this end.

Not sure if anyone commented about this recently, but the "show car w/ special paint stripes" is/was just what you say. I spoke to Jack "Doc" Robinson two years ago at the York reunion about that car. Jack told the same story as reported and I could tell he loved the bench racing.

I love the launch pic on that 70 father skunk. Running in F/S I think that's a w31.

Nice. 65 was always my favorite of the 64-67s.

I don't think Jack Robinson is a member here. He and I have a mutual friend who is actually the "wrench" from my '69 W-31 from when Anderson ran the car. I will plant the seed..............

Yes. Team work. These pictures didn't go over too well over at Jalopy Journal. See my signature below.

Above is NOT the same SX convertible as Dick Griffin purchased from Troxell earlier on but yet another Troxell built SX convertible racer. As is SX convertibles grew on
trees.

Above and below brief period of wagon between Jack Troxell and Paul Mayo when
wagon was campaigned by Dick Griffin. Olds won manufacturer cup in 1971 and 1972.
Also seen is white SX convertible already converted to a 72 so points could accumulate for 72 season.
Both white convertible and Vista were built by Jack Troxell. Convertible was a darker colored 71 with Troxell and
Al Seger applied white paint. Cooper car seen to the left also with 72 conversion. Cooper car to
extreme left is actually a 70 W-31 that was converted to a 71 and here a 72. Olds sent conversion kits for these cars
that included radiator core support to convert 70 cars to 71 and later minor pieces to convert the 71s to
72s. Another example of a 70 w-31 converted is the King
Olds car that became the light blue and white 71 and 72 Waibel and Ingersoll car.

To right of trophy is Al Seger and Dick Griffin. Dick Griffin bought the Vista and SX convertible
off Jack Troxell. Wagon ended up being raced by Paul Mayo and SX convertible was raced by Al Seger.

Above with trophy is Dick Griffin who I believe bought the wagon off Troxell. Paul Mayo ended up racing this wagon for several years with different paint.

Vista Bruiser wagon built and raced by Jack Troxell. Passed through Dick Griffin's hands and ended up
being raced by Paul T. Mayo for several years.

Above notice right rear damage to taillight and tailgate as Vista Cruiser car was hit in staging lanes during these races.

Above four shots Beech Bend 1974. Mayo was runner up

Below is same wagon repainted.

Below are color shots of wagon racing as late as 1985 no longer under Paul Mayo ownership. Wagon
rumored to still exist in circa Minnesota or Wisconsin.

A few thoughts:
I really miss seeing "lettered" race cars with names. Seems like all you see today are vinyl graphics and stickers.
As noted earlier, most Oldsmobiles make killer looking race cars, especially with a little daylight under the front wheels. I especially like the Super Stockers.
I think the "Father Skunk" above running F/S may be a 455 and not a '31. The car has 442 logos and depending on exactly what year the picture was taken and the weight of the car that day, it is unlikely that it was running a 350. In 1970, most W-31s were refactored down to G/S. My guess is that car was either a "heavy" W-30 or tuned as a "natural" 455 running F. Back then those cars could jump up or down a class rather easily, many times to avoid meeting certain cars in eliminations or class run-offs.

Convertible is this post is the same vehicle. Top shows darker colored 71 SX convertible built by Jack Troxell. Dick Griffin purchased this SX convertible
and the Vista Bruiser wagon from Troxell. Al Seger painted the convertible white and converted it to 72 so points could accumulate for the 72 season as
car had to be current year to do so. Car was wrecked in mid 80s resulting in the fatality of its driver.

Above former Ron Garey 1970 Summer Nationals runner up car that lost to a 69 Biscayne. Both the winner and loser set records. This red Olds W-30 was later sold to dentist "Doc" Jack Robinson who is campaigning the car in the above photo as evident on front fender. Car was sent to Ron Garey initially by Olds to race as a former show car with special paint stripes on roof and trunk which cannot be seen very well in this photo. Ron Garey was rumored to have said he hated to cut up the car but that's what Olds sent him. Possibly explains the bezels being blacked out also.

I saw the "flat roof" at the York Reunion a while back. Troxell was there, too. The wagon is "show quality" and I wanna say has 300 miles since new. Very cool piece.

Thank you vista cruiser 67 for posting the go wagon pictures. I got to see some of the progress as the car was being rebuilt. I also got to see it before Rusty started taking it to car shows. Brought back some memories. Keep posting those pictures of these race cars. Wish there was a data bank that could store this info before there is a crash and all is lost!

Keith Curry bought the car of Rusty Patterson and had it when I took some current pictures at Lansing 2013. He didn't show up at Lansing in 2014.
