Anyone have one or use one of these on a 64-72 A-body?
Like to see a picture or 2 of where it bolts up.
Wondering if it bolts to the doubled up area on the floorpan.

 

I'm not familiar with the Metco drive shaft loop.
That being said, if you plan on taking the car to the track NHRA/IHRA have specific rules as to the placement. If I remember correctly it has to be within six inches of the forward u-joint and utilize grade 8 fasteners (bolts and washers) That's easy enough to look up online.

 

I'm replaceing my old lakewood piece of crap hopefully with something nicer. Metco or UMI Performance.

I had this one all cut up to fit but it worked for 13 years.

I know UMI Performance makes one like the Metco bu the Metco is around $10 less.

I had a Metco loop in my Ford Lightning along with some pulleys and they were great quality.

 

I have a Lakewood 18000 hanging on the wall here. I'm curious why you dislike it. Other than the bends being a bit crude, and the grade 6 bolts, It doesn't seem too bad. It looks like It could be attached directly to the crossmember If I Welded on some tabs for it to bolt up to.

 

I had to redrill holes, cut on it, and bend it to fir the floor. Couldnt use the top half of the loop either. It was bolted within the first 4 inches of the driveshaft on my 69 442.

 

Yuck. Doesn't sound like fun at all. I was curious, because I've never tried installing the Lakewood unit before. I just bought it because it was 15 bucks at a garage sale, and hung it on the wall.

 

why not build your own?

 

I've thought of building my own but with work and my son on my days off I only get out in the garage once a week if I'm lucky.
Right now the trans, rearend, headers, exhaust, and interior our out of the car and I have a sidejob doing some body and paint work in about 2-3 weeks.
Around $72 dollars shipped from Jegs for the Metco loop sounds good to me.

I'ma member on there and remember seeing these months ago but forgot all about them. I'll be placing an order on monday. I really didnt want to drill more holes in my floor.

 

grade 6? if you mean 6 hash marks, those are grade 8.
I make my own out of bent pieces of 1/4" thick by 2" wide strap; it takes 3.5 to 4" of it to make one shaped to fit the floor inside, and one that clears the driveshaft underneath. I use four grade 8 bolts in 7/16 or 1/2" diameter. Especially if you upgrade your shaft to 4" for a higher critical speed, there is little room to the floor.

 

I have the Metco loop in my '65. It fits very well.

 

I meant to type grade 5. 3 hash marks.

 

I used the double metal area and it is acording to rules within proper distance.

 

Got my Metco loop today. Very nice quality.

The piece comes powder coated, fits perfectly AND is made in the good Olds (sic) USA!
