You have to realize some people on this site dislike Vortecpro as much as you dislike Cutlassefi. Others think Vortecpro derails perfectly good threads. It is what it is🤷‍♂️.

Do you remember Andy and his loyal customer base threads, total **** storm with the thread being locked after a call from the red phone.
The ROP racers used to post on Yellow Bullet racing forum kill or be killed that site was the next level. But then again ROP had its days where it could hold its own with any forums **** talk thread.
I just wan't to make this clear I don't dislike anyone on this forum or ROP past or present!

Bernard, just so happens I was part of the reason that Yellowbullet formed? We Monty myself, Jim Monson, Kevin Parent and others kept getting kicked off the NMCA site. Something hapened and I was out for dinnr with Monty and he told me he was going to start the site. I got a call the site was up and that afternoon I joined. I am #18 of everyone to join on the very first day. Man those were good days.

As for Mark VORTECPRO. He is very good at this hobby. Done it for years.. people just get pissy because he doesn't sugar coat things and just says it. I talked to Mark plenty on phone. He really does love this hobby. Do we disagree sometimes, sure, but that's fine. And IF people didn't push people and boundies, there wouldn't be the performance levels today.

I agree Mark does not sugar coat his posts and that with out competition performance levels would not be were they are today.
Look at F1 the top teams managers are always talking ***** last year it reached an all time high.

True, but Velcro all too often puts his spin on it and gets away from the facts.
And please don’t compare him to F1. Apples and watermelons.
I’m done here anyway. I’ll be posting my builds on FB for now, and hopefully my website in the near future.
Enjoy gentlemen.

I'm not comparing Mark to F1 what I am comparing is in an competitive environments trash talk is common.
The majority of trash talk on ROP was done by engine builders and there customer base, because of the competitive nature of people building performance cars.

You’ve posted six time here….all completely off topic. Nothing to do with my original topic of a dyno competition .

the mods are freaked out because the off topic bs going on here….I think they’re talking about you.

VORTECPRO is asking relevant questions about how this thing would work and be fair.

You continually post builds and dyno data in racing and high performance, yet scoff at others who ask if anyone has raced your stuff.

this competition is right up your alley…it’s not racing….I thought you would be one of the first to say , hell ya, let’s do this.

you can have all the input you want on what you would like to build. This is your chance to shut your critics up once and for all.

I'm seriously considering building a 455 Olds this winter to dyno then drag test, and if I do it will be built with production heads, block and crank, with a non roller cam. If it happens it will done start to finish over a few weeks and tested, so the results can be shown immediately, it will not be a drawn out thing.

That’s because you’d get blocked there in a minute for the stunts you pull here.
FB is a worldwide social media platform. But the amazing thing is you almost NEVER see anybody post a negative comment on someone else’s build. And I’ve yet to see anyone there ask for time slip for validation on ANYBODY’S builds.
Ricksw30, btw where’s your time slip?

Engine is going together as we speak.
Give me a little time for install and finishing up the rest of the drivetrain and we can meet up at Orlando speed world.
You can bring one of your builds !

I’m not a racer and I don’t typically build anything other than mild street performance engines.

You crucified Velcro on ROP years ago for posting cyl head pics from Harold Bettes’ book and passing them off as his own and now you’re collaborating with him on this? The two of you are racers, I’m not. You’re telling me I’ll have the same level of input? I beg to differ. Thanks for the invite though. However I’m not interested.

Sure, no problem!
And I was asking about the earlier W30 build Velcro posted awhile back, ported Edelbrocks, W30 intake. You know, the one where you said it made 620 lb/ft of torque yet the Dyno she only showed 602.

First, I don't believe I have ever posted any such thing on ROP. Didn't happen!
Second, that's ok if you don't race ! Not asking you to race. Just talk one of your customers into a day of fun and I'll pay his way. Doesn't matter what you run, it's all fun just getting down the track.
Third, if time slips are not your thing, then why are you interested in one from me.

Winter Haven, about 70 miles SW of where you’ll be.
You’re right, time skips are not my thing. But you guys asked me for mine all the time, why shouldn’t I ask you for yours right?

Un no…the heads in Bettes’ book i talked about were not posted by VP.

they were posted by a buy named CJ. Who claimed he had welded up the chamber himself..which was bs.

I’ll collaborate with anyone to get an Olds engine competition done. This is not a racer build competition…let’s do a mild 350 with some rules. This is more suited to you then either of us.

I asked for input, you offered none…but complain you won’t have the same level of input? Heck, how about we run air filters, alternator, and run them at 180 and mufflers?

Let’s hear what you would like…we’ll work around you

Sounds like a very fair plan.

should we do a max duration or lift rule?

Minimum Vacuum rule?

Aftermarket rods allowed?

93 (or less) octane pump gas only, no matter what compression?

Iron production heads with unlimited mods and custom valves allowed?

Aftermarket dual plane (performer RPM-style) intakes allowed?

Maybe not limited to small blocks only, but any engine size will work for the competition, judged on VE / TQ and HP per C.I., average power from 3000 to 6000rpm, and all supporting Dyno data including parameters and correction inputs? Thoughts?

Budget rule? Aka, if done by you for a customer, the labor and parts cost can total how much?

By the way, Harold Bettes was a great man, mentor, and friend to me for the short time I knew him while I had the opportunity to be around VORTECPRO’s shop. His passing was definitely felt by many of us.

Here’s what I’m thinking…to keep the costs down and get more interest.

must use the factory 350 gas block…any year. They are cheap and plentiful.

any factory cast iron or aftermarket aluminum cast head.

10.5 max comp ratio. .575” max lift , any solid flat or mech roller. Any rocker or rocker ratio.

94 pump gas. Any cast intake. 800 cfm max carb or equivalent EFI throttle body or port. Belt drive water pump off crank. And an air filter

2” max carb spacer. Any headers through two mufflers.

Conventional Distributor and separate coil

I like it!

Will you have a handicap factor for iron heads?
