1968 Drivers Side Mirror
1968 Drivers Side Mirror
I have a 1968 Cutlass Drivers side Non Remote Mirror in decent shape however I do not want to risk marking the paint putting it back on as it has to slide into place and then must be secured somehow from the inside to keep it from jiggling. The factory had 2 large rivets that hold it. Does anyone know if the Re-pop ones are screwed on? Where is the best place to get one? Cheapest? If anyone has one for sale I am interested, any help would be appreciated. Thanks Todd
They aren't rivets. They are flat headed screws with an Allen head in the end of the screw shaft. They are tightened from the top. You should have a plastic gasket that sits under the mirror so there isn't metal against paint. I don't know if anyone sells just the screws but I would think they do. I'm fairly sure other vehicles from that era used the same system.
You may want to check your mirror; a lot of people had "issues" with these screws, because you had to turn them clockwise to loosen them, because they screwed in from the bottom. Someone may have drilled out the holes in the mirror if it was riveted on when you got it. Bob.
