WTB-Hood Latch Area Underskin for 71 72 Cutlass

Hello,
For my 1972 cutlass supreme, I have an aftermarket oai hood with a fiberglass bottom, not a steel frame.
I am thinking of modifying the hood latch area so it by adding a metal hood latch area to it.
I'm not sure what years will fit.
I only want the front area of the hood.
If you have something like that, please let me know the details.
I'm in las vegas nv 89129.
Thanks
paul

I have a 72 flat steel hood. It is rusted out in the front lip where the skin meets the underside and as such would be unusable as a complete hood. However, I think the area immediately surrounding the latch area is OK. Currently there is a bit of stuff stacked on the front of the car, but I can probably get some pics this weekend. The hood is basically scrap so if you want it, I will cut a section out and you can have it for the cost of shipping.

You will probably need to post the pics to this thread as I have not found a way to add pics to a PM. Also, I don't know what shipping will be yet, so be sure to wait until I get it boxed up for a price.

Save yourself time attempting to find a way to add pics to a PM - it is not allowed. You can however, send pics via e-mail.

Here are some pics of the latch area. The thin sheet metal is pretty bad, but the latch portion is made of 1/16 - 1/8 steel. That part appears solid and is a large section that covers the "molded" latch area as well as the portion where the secondary release bolts into the hood.

The part I described above is roughly the size of the blue outline.

Hi Tom,
i would like a larger section if possible.
to help spresd the load and I can trim as needed.
I think it's better to have more than too little to attach to the fiberglass.
Let me know please
Thanks

I had an aftermarket all fiberglass hood and it had a simple metal plate assembly that worked great. Metal front and back, bolted through the fiberglass, with a metal bar across to catch the hood latch. Maybe this could be an easier idea for you - I'm sorry I don't have the hood anymore to take measurements or any other pictures for you

I've got several 71-72 flat hoods in Oregon. If the one Tom has doesn't have good enough metal for the larger area I would be willing to cut up one of the extra hoods I have.
