Question need timing tab!!

Which one? There are a few different ones; some metal, some plastic, depending on the year (points vs HEI). I have most, if not all, of them. Thanks, Bob.

You should use the plastic one with HEI, to accommodate the additional advance built into those distributors.

Yes. I don't remember exactly, but the early metal ones go to 10°, the later ones go to 10 or 12°, and the plastic ones go to 20 or 22°.

Sure. Or just mark the balancer in the important places, which is easier to see and work with anyway.

And your motor originally had the newer type metal timing tab.

You need one for an HEI engine. They have a little higher scale due to the higher base timing HEI cars use. Points tabs usually don't go much past 12 degrees.

This would probably be a plastic one. They all attach to the block the same way, meaning you might have to remove PS pump bracket. It uses a special double-ended bolt too IIRC (one to hold PS bracket on and one to mount the tab and bolt it on) and there is a small dowel on the timing cover to help you locate it correctly.

Why not just get both, Bill, and you can decide which you like to use better?

I'm sure Raider won't gouge you.

Great! Then you can do the job right.

Get everything cleaned up and ready when you can, so you can just jump right into it.

And let us know once you've got some numbers.

Just use the timing tape, either pasted on, or as a ruler.

Don't PO the gas station owner, or he won't see you any more gas.

That's like POing the bartender.
