Looking to buy heads for '70 455.

Let me know what you've got for how much and we'll talk. I'm pretty new to posting here so sorry if I'm bad at all of this, hahaha.

Welcome to the site! I moved your thread to the parts wanted section as this should get you more coverage here. Please post more pictures of your car when you have time. I've got extra heads, but so do a lot of other guys here. Tell us more about what you want to do. Do you want to match the 1970 casting numbers, or just want a different set than you have? Are the ones you have cracked or otherwise bad? More details will help you find a set. There's one member who just posted a set of bare C heads, 1967-69 big block heads for sale. I'll go back and look for it then post a link here. John

Here's the link I was talking about. But you may save $$ in shipping if you can find a set close by!

What letter cast are they? I live in the Silicon Valley. And are the heads bare or still have all the valves?

And to 2blu442; The engine I have right now only has one head, all I'm looking to do is have heads on the engine nothing too specific. We're probably gonna resurface and port the heads to our whim anyway if necessary.

the 70 heads would have the letter E cast a the front drivers side left of the first spark plug or the reverse on the passenger side

Citcapp; Oh, so all '70 heads would be E if they aren't the infamous F? Good to know, thank you.

To refine my question I'd like to find any heads from C-G. I'd prefer to have pre-1972. And also; does anybody think it would be a good idea to use my current 1971 350's heads on the 455 if I were to re-manufacture and port them?

No, the 350 heads wouldn't work. But your on the right track with the C through G heads, you would also be OK with the Ga or Ka heads. The J heads can also be made to create good power, it will take more porting work to do that than if you start with the earlier heads. John

2blu442; Ok. Why is it that the 350 heads won't work though? From what I had read it sounded like they would fit at least. Is the compression too far off or something? I'm probably looking for E preferably then but I could do with any others. I had found some J's but it sounded to me like they would be too much work to make in to really good street performance heads when I can just find some C's or E's. Thank you again for the advice.

I know the small block heads have smaller valves and smaller combustion chambers. I also know the bore in a small block is smaller than a big block, so it could be the combustion chamber is a smaller diameter on the small block vs. big block but I'm not sure. Tomorrow I could take some measurements from loose heads to see if this is correct. I'm also thinking the intake manifold to head angle may be different, as big block heads can be bolted to small block heads but I believe something has to be done to the small block intake to make things line up. If you've not found the wiki site yet here's the link for heads. The whole site has good information if you have time to read through it. John

2blu442; Oh wow I didn't even consider the size of the combustion chambers, slipped my thought process hahaha. I'll play it safe and just find the proper big block heads rather than try to cut corners with the 350 heads. Besides, if I don't ruin those heads I can dress that engine up and sell it.

That link is definitely helpful also, I hadn't stumbled upon it. Beforehand I was using the FAQ section of 442.com. Here is a link to the heads section I was reading through on that site.

I used to use 442.com a lot but then learned from the Olds gurus here that some of the information there isn't correct. So now I go to the wiki site first and when in doubt post a question on this site. There are a couple guys who cannot be stumped and several more who are really familiar with specific years/details on these cars. Way cool to get help from people who know first hand John

Yeah that's actually why I figured I would use this site again, through searching things up all the time I noticed that I got my most helpful information here. I had registered a while back and had forgotten about my membership until it dawned on me today during my search for cylinder heads, hahaha. The wiki site definitely has a lot of good info it seems though, thank you.

I know you said you have various heads, do you think you would happen to have any (preferably assembled) you would sell?

Here's a post from a couple years ago. I may not have these specific heads anymore, but probably have most of the common castings. My machine shop raised his prices a little to hot tank and magniflux so I'd need to bump things up a little too. Shipping adds up, so if you can find something closer you won't hurt my feelings. But yes, I do have extra heads, motors, misc. parts, clutter, etc.... John

Well I'm building this engine out of my friend's dad's machine shop so we have access to hot tanks and all the other machinery we'll need. But I'd definitely pay a reasonable price with shipping and all if you would be willing to send 'em. But the E Large Valves are basically exactly what I'm looking for. If you want to quote the shipping pm me for my zip.
