Center console harness
Tom,
The 71-72 console harnesses are the same. The 70 harness is different, all by itself.
The 70 console harness has plugs for the neutral safety switch that is located on the back of the automatic & dual-gate shifters.
Can you install a 71-72 harness in a 70? Yes.The 71-72 harness only has the 3 light sockets, for the shift indicator, rear light, and the storage compartment. If you do this, you will need the matching 71-72 console extension harness, that attaches the console harness to the main dash.
You would also need a 71-72 style column switch, for the bottom of the column,to operate your reverse lights, and to relocate the neutral safety function.it's been awhile since I did it,but I have done a few 70's like that in the past, when I converted them from bench to buckets/console,and the owners weren't concerned about originality.

it is a matter of what you have and what you are trying to do. does your shifter have the 70 neutral switch on it? are you converting from bench to buckets? do you already have a 71-72 harness? if you are converting from bench to buckets and don't have a switch on your shifter i would go with the 71-72 harness. the neutral switch would already be on the column. if you have a switch on the shifter and it is all good i would get the 70 harness. if you want it like original you will have to go with a 70 harness.
