Air Cleaner is for this engine.

I'm okay with having to bead blast it and re-finish.
I just don't want one eaten up with rust.
Thanks,
Steven

I'm not sure if the HEI makes a stock type air cleaner impossible or not.

Yes, it is an EGR with Block-off plate, plus the restored Q-Jet is equipped with an electric choke. I would chosen to use a 2711 but the manifold came from a friend for almost nothing.

These points either make the use of a factory style air cleaner troublesome or they don't make any difference. If anyone has experience with this please give me a head's up. - Steven

I'm in Kansas City. Might also be interested in the 3:08 posi-trac.

I dont think a stock air cleaner will fit w an HEI and the 3711, I dont know for sure tho. pm tony72 cutlass he might have that same combo on his. I have an RPM ?7111? i think. it clears the HEI but now the hood is a problem

Air cleaner for HEI

You'll need a later model air cleaner to clear the HEI. The factory one barely clears the stock distributor.

EGR plate might be a problem for throttle arm on carb, been a while since I've had my hands on one of those intakes. Using a carb spacer will solve that if it is a problem.

Use of carb spacer may still not clear HEI w/ stock air cleaner. There are generic, though diameter specific spacers for air cleaners available aftermarket. In the past I have used a Chevelle SS cowl induction air cleaner spacer on 70-72 Cutlii without complication.

One of the club members had a rather nice 69(?) 442 red air cleaner for sale @ NEOC show in CT today. If you might be interested let me know & I'll PM you w/ contact info.

Thank you for the good information. I think I'm going to try a later model cleaner designed for us with HEI. - Steven
