1968 442 Air Cleaner

Turns out, I've got a real dandy 1969 big block air cleaner. Unfortunately, my car is a '68 and so has valve cover breather on driver's side. Willing to trade plus cash, or buy outright if not a crazy price. I'd even go for just the base. Worst comes to worst, I'll convert to 1969 valve cover breather and grommet.

As referenced in your other post, that OS air cleaner is a '69.

It doesn't matter. All 4 bbl 400 Vista & 442 used the same breather, different label > #624835 & 6424958 for W30, 1968.

I have a 6424834 or air cleaner in the garage. I dont know if it'll work for you. I have no use for it. Let me know and I'll get some more pics later this evening.

Yellowstatue, is the small block base physically different with regard to the valve cover tube location? I’m not worried about the stove pipe since my manifold tins are gone. My primary focus is getting my covers valve covers hooked up properly.

The snout opening is smaller

Slowbird sent me pics and is similar to the 1968 big block base except the snorkel doesn't taper. Might even be a bit longer as well.

I'm not sure what you mean. An OG air cleaner snout tapers, just not as much

Slowbird's air cleaner was for a small block. It looks much the same as a big block base, except the snorkel is not tapered.

That doesn’t even look like a 68 air cleaner

The two links to “for sale” posts I posted above are the correct air cleaners bases for the 68’s. There are other variations but other than the OAI and the 2 bbl, the only difference is in the cover stickers

The small block snorkel has a welded piece at the opening of the snorkel and is smaller. The big block snorkel is wider at the opening and no extra metal.
