I am repainting my trunk lid this winter, I was thinking of just getting 1/16 and 1/4 stripe tape and laying the white strip color down first and stripe tape on top. I think it would be hard by hand to keep a consistent gap between the stripes. I have heard the stencils can be a pain as they leave adhesive behind.
I would love to know what others have done and had good results with.
I used the above mentioned stencil kit.....yes, it is a real pain. I painted the car first, then applied the stencils, painted the stripes, color sanded, then cleared. As for the adhesive, I asked where I bought the paint what to use....they sold me a product that worked well, for the life of me I can't remember what it was called.
The factory used a pinstriping tool/rig for the trunk stripes......a Bugler brand type pinstripe roller. They may have had a "guide" of sorts to use with the stripe roller. There's a factory assembly line pic showing a guy using one of these on the sidestripes on a '70 442 convertible. It was also used on the trunk IMO.
