Is there an

Are there any issues with repainting over a fresh ceramic coating. Does it need to come completely off to second coat the clear? And if it does is there a chemical that will remove it without damage to the color coat....Tedd

It really depends on what the base coat is and what you plan on covering it with.

It's on my freshly painted and ceramic coated BMW. I was looking to do some touch up on the clear because of runs, but I'm concerned that conventional grease removers won't cut the ceramic coating and give me adhesion problems down the road... Tedd

Tedd, I assume you will be using sandpaper on the clear coat to rough up the over all area after you address the runs? If so, then the sandpaper should take care of the ceramic coating issue.

This from a Google search.

I would contact the coating company and see if they 9have a tech line that could give you an answer. Or if you know someone at a body shop they may be able to help you.

If you’re just clearing a panel that’s already clearcoated, the prep work should provide sufficient adhesion. I would wetsand the entire panel with 1,000 grit. If it’s cured, you won’t get adhesion ceramic or not.

After dealing with all the crazy paint protection products over the years (Poly coat, Teflon, etc.) I would definitely contact the manufacturer before trying to touch up any ceramic coated paint. All that I've had the displeasure to deal with, have had special procedures to be sure the coating is gone before painting.
