My car was a back yard restore - if you've seen my other posts, a lot of the stuff done to it before I bought it was half-a$$ed (I'm not bitter, it had a lot of potential and it's turning out pretty good). The paint job was no different. It looks fine for what my car is, a driver not a show car. It is a base/clear paint job and I love the color but the orange peel and crap in the paint drove me nuts. Last fall I was fixing some chips and sanding with 1,000 grit to flatten the chip after I put in the touch up paint, followed up by 2,000 grit, compound and polish. Fixing the chips got a little out of hand and I used 1,000 grit to knock down the orange peel on the one half of the hood. The problem was I didn't know what I was doing and my heart sunk when I saw the end result. While I did use 2,000 grit and compound after, it still didn't look good. Over the winter, I did some reading and built up the courage to fix my mistake. Here is the results from yesterday's project.
The left side of the hood shows the 1,000 grit marks from when I was getting rid of the orange peel - even after the 2,000 grit didn't do the trick. The right side is the "after" side, when I used Meguiar's Pro Speed Compound to get rid of the scratches.
Another view of the "before" and "after".
This is the finished product, after wet sanding and compounding, I finished up with Meguiar's Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax.

Nice!!!! I have a similar situation on the b pillar on my 66 442, drivers side. Trying to get the body shop to come to my house to fix it as car won’t be on the street for a while.
Is that a 67 with a 66 hood or a 66?
So the other ask….my car is the same color. Had it painted that way as my first 66-442 was blue (50 years ago). Looking at tires/wheels and leaning towards rally wheels with red line tires, but always wondered what Mags would look like. Can you send a full pic of the car…would help me make the right choice. Thanks in advance

As far as I know, it's a 67 hood on my 67.
