My stock AC compressor is toast in my 74 Cutlass. Rock auto lists both Metric Thread and Standard thread compressors for my car. (See attached pic). Which one do I want? I am also getting conflicting information from other websites like Summit Racing which say none of these compressors will fit my car. I have searched till my eyeballs bled, but couldn't find my answer.

I would check for a local shop that rebuilds compressors over buying one from Summit or the like.

I originally went to a local shop that used to rebuild them, but they have gone to the dark side and sell the same stuff as I can find online, but for twice the price. I haven't found any other shop locally that does this but I will keep looking.

 

You need a new a6 with standard threads. Remaned compressors may have shaft seal issues. But if you want to have yours rebuilt, classic auto air in Tampa does it but its not cheap. There is also a company called yellow rose in ft worth Texas that does it.

What did you pay for that old air comp, if you don't mind me asking? Their prices seem very high to me.

 

It is a bit pricey at $369 - . but I've found that the good stuff usually is and almost always worth the extra cost -- I'd already tried two different A6 units with no success -- the Pro6Ten has been flawless - works great, looks modern, and weighs next to nothing compared to the vintage A6 -- mounted up with just a couple spacers in original location using original brackets -- good piece of kit --

 

I wasn't sure if you were talking about the pro6ten. My shop is right next to the wholesaler that supplies old air with those pro6tens. I get them at old air's price. Well I think I do. So if anyone needs one lmk... and you are right, they are great compressors.
