Which letters/numbers represent which rear end ratios ?

Which letters/numbers represent which rear end ratios ?
I am about to take delivery of a '68 Cutlass S conv., and would appreciate it if someone will advise which letters and numbers on the rear end equal what ratios. The previous owner says it has the original gears and says that means its a 3.08. Were all '68's originally that ratio ?
