This is sad!
Hey guys, some of you know I have referred members at various times to someone that has a good supply of older cars on an 80 acre site. Bob Hutchison, some of you have probably even spoken to him about your needs. Anyway, for those that don't know about him, he has lots of older cars on his property and is willing to sell almost any part you need although he does have some "project" cars that he wants to keep together to sell as-is. At any rate, a customer was injured by an accident in his yard when taking a part of of a car. I don't know all the specifics but this guy has consequently sued Bob for everything in his yard. What makes it sad is that Bob has insurance and promised to pay all medical costs, even those his insurance didn't cover, and worse, the guy is an old acquaintence of Bob from way back and knows this is Bob's livelyhood, even though he is retired ,cars are his life. At any rate, I have been meaning to get down there and get the straight scoop on it. I hate to call him instead of talking to him in person but might have to. If anyone needs any parts or is thinking about buying a project soon I strongly urge you to contact Bob, if he has what you need he may need the cash for this battle ahead. In no way am I infereing that he could be taken advantage of, but he is a fair headed, honest guy and could really use any help and earning it the way he intended, by doing business with his cars is probably the best way for him to do this. Finally, if he loses this fight those cars may not be around this summer

He is located in S.W. Missouri, just about an hour north of Joplin. Used to be he was always in his yard and if you called any other time besides lunchtime his wife would answer and have to take a message.

We hear about this kind of thing often.....around here its rare that you can even walk a junkyard alone or remove a part yourself because of this very reason. For me an old junkyard is a goldmine.....as with anything in life sometimes you get hurt etc but I would never hold the yard owner responsible for an injury while having the honor of being in his yard getting a desperately neded part. One time in a yard I was trying to remove a exhaust manifold from a 70 Toro GT....the wrench slipped and I had a lot of force on it. When it went I peeled a major portion of skin off my finger.....I hid my injury from the owner so he wouldnt worry and rethink letting people pull their own parts.
There was a few u-pull-it's around here but now there's only one becuase of this. I went to one yard and they had a mid 80's caprice that I could pull some parts off of that would work the Delta, but they told me, go out and see what you need, then come back and we'll pull it.
I got the wiring for the wipers, but that's it

It is very sad that the world has come to this. Unfortunatly good guys like Bob are the ones who have to pay for other people's carelessnes when it comes to safety. I think it is rediclous that someone would sue him for somthing that was their own fault. It is the same reason you cant pick your own parts where i live for people being carless. Yesterday on the News I saw a person sueing a company because she spilt coffee on herself... It is really getting out of hand. It is not as bad in Canada, but still quite rediclous.
Sorry to hear about this problem. The best of luck to Bob. Around here one can't pull your own parts and the junk yard owners look at you as if you are nuts for asking them to go pull a twenty five cent part for you when they would lose money sending a guy out to get it. Larger jobs like quarter panels etc is more worth it. Bummer.
My brother-in-law lives near Bob, has bought a car from him too, and is the guy that hooked me up originally with Bob. He has a better relationship with him than I do and Bob didn't even want to talk about it on the phone with my brother-in-law so it might be best not to mention the troubles, or at least not press the issue. Good luck John.
Darn! It might be the end already. I did talk to my brother-in-law two weeks ago but he hasn't talke to Bob either. I haven't gotten down there like I wanted to. I really should go down there soon..
