Replacing door locks 72 Cutlass

I bought some replacement locks for my doors and trunk on my 72 Cutlass. I pulled the door locks only to fund that the retaining clip that hold the rod mechanism does not work very well. It is in no way tight enough once it is slid in place. Has anyone else had this problem and know a way to fix it?

I just changed mine on the 72 as well. There were only two retaining clips on each side. One that held the lock itself to the door. The other a clip that held the metal loop that connects to the door lock and the rod. But no retaining clip to hold the rod on the loop - at least not in mine. Maybe there should be but mine did not have those.

I'm referring to the one that holds the loop at connects the door lock and the rod. The old one broke when taking the "loop" off of the original look and the ones that came with the locks aren't worth a darn...
