Automatic Gear Indacator Pointer

Guys
hey i have looked all around the site for links on gear indacator's but have not seen anywhere that there is a link to this part. It would be for a 69 Cutlass S with an automatic on the column. Any thoughts. I have checked evilbay, Fusicks and Inline tube.

Look to buy a used speedometer for parts, that is what I did. I am assuming the indicator piece is broken from the back. If you still have the piece that broke off you could try crazy glue with baking powder to reattach it, then reinforce it with a little J.B. Weld. Hope this helps..T

tcaroll, baking soda or powder? I believe its soda which used in conjunction with CA glue (cyanoacrylate) accelerates its curing process. Although powder does contain sodium bicarbonate, soda is pure sodium bicarbonate which will react immediately with the glue. But I suppose if you don’t want the immediate curing action the powder may give you more work time to play with the part. I have never tried this with old plastic. Which did you use?

What a great idea I totally forgot about this trick. Many moons ago when I was playing chemist we used the very same process in our model shop when "growing" SLA prototype parts and bonding them together. The soda was used not only to speed curing but also as filler thus making the seams disappear after a light sanding. Good old H2O will also accelerate the cure but won’t have the filler effect the soda will. Thanks for reminding me (us) of this as I just recently struggled with a part I was gluing. The JB idea is a great as well to add needed strength to the repair! Thanks!

I used Baking Powder and yes Soda I believe will react quicker. If you do use the J.B. weld after to help reinforce be careful to make sure the indicator can move freely without binding as it is a tight fit once in the speedometer.
Glad I could help ~Cheers~ ...T
P.S. I used this method on my plastic headlamp housings to actually rebuild pieces that were missing, for my speedo indicator, to make a missing A/C vent louver and many other places on my 68 Cutlass.

I have 2 speedos from a 69 Cutlass for a column shift automatic if you are interested. 1 is for a 2 speed auto and the other for a 3 speed auto. Both are good with good pointers with the 2 speed version being a little nicer. Let me know if either would be of interest.

I'd say $40 for either one plus shipping from Maryland.
