Did not even notice at first, but my speedometer was acting erratically, then stopped entirely. Total mileage and trip odometer has also stopped.

Any suggestions?

Seems like the speedometer works intermittently, when it does the cruise control works as expected (I use it often).

When the speedometer DOES NOT work, neither does the cruise control.......?

Does this indicate fault with the VSS, Vehicle Speed Sensor?

 

If you have a factory service manual it should have troubleshooting instructions for the VSS. I got a digital copy of the service manual for my 96 98 from Bishko. Later I got an OE paper copy and the digital was pretty true to the original.

Comparing the service manuals for my 96 98 to the FSM & CSM for my 71 98 you could tell they cut corners in writing in later years. The manual for my 96 98 was probably written overseas.
