New and already messed up!

New and anxious
Hello I'm Mark and clearly new to this phenomenal site, what a wealth of members and information. I hope somewhere down the road that I may be able to contribute and not just inquire. I'm a fiftysomething oldster and have not had an Olds in quite some time.
I'll be picking up a 79' Regency Brougham 98 2 door in a few weeks which leads to this question! Doe's anyone know what the GVW is on this model as I will be trailering it back home to northern Indiana that will be a nine hour drive and I want to make sure that my Silverado can handle it

My apologies I posted this on another thread by mistake (can really tell the noobs huh!)

Howdy Mark, Welcome. I'm a fifty something too, the Olds will keep you young, keeps you busy anyway.

The Olds 88 Wikipedia thing says the 1977 weigh between 3500 and 3600 pounds. Is that about the same size as a '79 Ninety-Eight?

If it has a big enough engine pull the Silverado back with the Ninety-Eight if you're worried.

Thank you!
The 77' 78' & 79' were all the same body and only made those three years be it two door or four door I just wasn't sure of the weight and also have to include trailer weight as well. I will be pulling it with my 2002 Silverado reg cab short bed 5.3 Z71 4wd, and even though it has a towing cap of 8500# and class three hitch I wanted to make sure that I covered my bases PLUS!

With that capacity you have to get another one and pull two of them back.

Mark, I have an idea, when you get to the car, put the chebby on the trailer and tow it back with the Olds...problem solved! All kidding aside, welcome to the site. I see the late '70's full-sizers are getting more popular. Makes me want to add one to my collection!

Erik, not until I have completed my collection, the next is a real sweet 77' 2dr out of New Mexico and then I'm after a 78' 2dr. Hope to have all these buttoned up by end of summer! Winter here is a real bear as we average 70plus inches of snow per season (damn lake effect off Lake Michigan)

You will be fine asuming the truck is in good shape. Tie the car down well at all corners and throw a safety front and rear (extra) dot calls for four contact points on all wheeled vehicles. The will not likely bother you if you dont, but I pulled cars for a living, and it gets scary when a securement pops.. I habitually add extras for insurance. Id rather be laughed at for over doing a job, than cited or worse for not doing the job well enough. Congrats on the find, and welcome to the site. Post pics when you can.

A 77 98 should weigh in around 3850.
