Neighbour messed me up! Need new radiator.

While my bumper are being re-chromed I decide I need to paint my engine. Take the radiator out and all the goodies off the motor. Cleaning the rad out in the back lane, the one re-conditioned 1500 miles ago, I forgot it in the sun drying. OOPS!
So I ask the neighbour the next day "If he saw my rad disappear". He says "I took it to the metal guy". I say "Well get it back". Sorry crushed!
Now this is a guy that I talk cars with, always helping him with repairs, loaning tools, have a beer or two. Actually a very nice guy.
Now WTF!
I am really, really attached to ALL the original parts on my car. Anyone know were I might source an original style radiator for a 1977 Cutlass Supreme , 403 with A/C, power streeing, etc.
I couldn't bear to install one of those plastic tank aluminium ones!
It needs to be period correct, (all metal)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I would "let" him find another radiator for me, he pretty much stole yours.

He needs to pay for the replacement. Sorry....just because it's out back doesn't mean it's up for grabs. Not only that but the condition of it should have told him it wasn't junk.

What a tool.

Either that or his riding lawnmowers should be "given" to the scrap guy.

It was at the back of my drive way leaning against the hydro pole. I sometimes leave stuff there too. Nobody ever mess with it. figured he could have at least waited untill I got home from work and asked me if it was junk. I am very up set. Need to find another ASAP. The chrome is done and the engine is almost painted.

Thanks
Mike

there's no way he shouldn't pay for the replacement. he took something that didn't belong to him. this finders keepers crap don't cut it. I wouldn't be hesitant about expressing my displeasure at the inconsiderate bone head.

And if he doesn't you might even want to file a police report. I know doing something like that with a neighbor really sucks, but when they are just that damn STUPID you have to do what you have to do.

your neighbor thinks you're a punk, plain and simple

you not doing anything about it makes him right in his mind

that's why he did it in the first place

It happens, never leave anything out that isn't bolted down , especially if it's anywhere near anyplace that looks like it could be for the trash man.
It would be like trying to get blood from a stone getting anything, I know those guys, some are friends.
Does your grass need cut??
Be careful or he'll pawn or sell the lawnmower.

When I was around 17 I had a pair of female mannequin's legs I would stick out the back window of my car then drive around for kicks with my buddies.
I stored them in the garage right around the corner from the trash cans and the garbage collector scumballs grabbed them one garbage day. I was pretty sure they ripped them off when I saw the legs lashed to the grill of the garbage truck.

We all agree the neighbour is an idiot but where can I get a proper radiator? All I can find is Chinese plastic crap. Anyone?

Mike
PS now the other (85 year old ) neighbour just put a nice long (tail lite to the front door) crease in the side of my truck with his buick. He says " it don't look too bad you should be able to buff that out", I think I need to start culling out the herd!

That I would be demanding his insurance to pay for.

Did you try Rockauto for the rad? You might call them to see if they have a brass one in a warehouse someplace.
I would not want one of those crappy plastic jobs either.

I just got a copper brass one from a company called ready-rad. The copper/brass one for your car would be 438161. Don't let them replace it with 433161 as that is the plastic/aluminum replacement.

EDIT: 438161 is available from O'Reilly auto parts for 179.99 (at least from my zip code). I don't know where you are though.

Is there blue sky all around you Mike, with the only cloud over your head? I'd hide the old geezer's walker until he pays for the fender. Better yet, introduce him to the five-finger discount shopper.

Here is what rockauto offers. The specified copper and brass one is the costly one for 266. Add about 20 to ship it, round up to the furthest one hundred, and give the bill to your metal pirating neighbor.

What's a 'hydro pole'?? Is that like a telephone pole?
I would not think it would be a good idea to run water lines on poles in such a cold climate.

It's ok they run antifreeze in them . In places where electricity is produced from water people tend to call them hydro poles , carrying hydro electric power.I found my 4 row rad on Ebay and it's a copper tank etc one. I think it was around 225 and then shipping plus taxes plus UPS extra charge for crossing the border put it close to 400.

All electricity in BC is generated via Hydro-Electric dams, the government run electric company used to be called BC Hydro. Everyone calls their electric bills their hydro bill and hydro poles are what hold up the hydro lines.

There's a bit of western canada trivia for ya!

We'll I learn the most interesting things on this site. Apparently not everyone calls them Hydro poles! Yes we have LOTS of hydro electric power. BC Hydro is the government department. We are going to build another Huge dam at Site "C" which should take our energy security well into the future. Not so cold in Vancouver. We actually didn't even get snow last winter.
You know how they say bad stuff happens in three's!! We'll ..........
So I am driving at 15MPH in a construction zone . Flag girl is talking with some other guy not paying attention and Wham! hits my truck with her metal sign. Busted the mirror. I hope it's all over now!
Looks like a new rad coming on Monday. I hope it fits!

seems without bad luck you'd have no luck at all.

telephone pole seems to be the most popular name around here. but now most of telephone wire is underground. electric and tv cable support is now the primary function

Maybe "utility pole" should be the most generic term!
Thanks for the Canadian trivia!

That is where I store my ice, too.
So what is really keeping it cold, the electric part or that big bin of ice that is in it?

And my Olds' ALT light is called the GEN light...

Round ere most people call a snowmobile a skidoo no matter what brand and cause we worked for N.S.Power they were called power poles. In some places the power is on one side and the cable and phone is on the other side of the road. Places where they are all on the same pole the cable company has to pay the power company to use the pole.
