Here goes, I own a 1980 Olds Cutlass Supreme. It's my first car and I've had it since I was 15. I'm closing in on 40 so It's been around a while. I know it intimately as I've had the body off the frame for a bunch of welding repairs (New England winters) and sandblast and repaint. I've replaced all bushings front and rear w/ a PST polygraphite kit and all the steering has been replaced as well. She came with an Olds 260 2V and I replaced it with a Olds 350 with 10:25-1 compression TRW forged pistons , Edelbrock Performer package cam ,lifters , intake and carb. It's backed by a TH700R4 chevy trans. with a bellhousing adapter to mate it to the Olds. Stock Rally wheels all around (no 20" wheels for me) 15" rears and 14" fronts. The interior is out of an 87 Cutlass Salon that was a recovered theft w/17000 mles on its clock. The interior is mint with a power drivers seat. That's about it on the car. It been off the road since 1991 and it asleep in my 3 stall garage. I have a couple young kids that occupy my time and a full time job to keep the bills paid and food on the table. Pretty much I'm hoping to get some inspiration from you folks and your projects. Mine is all back together, less interior, and needs minor body work and a repaint. Thanks for the welcome guys. Here are a some pictures. First one is from 1987 when I got rid of the white walls and got RWL tires. Second is shortly after the 350 install. Notice the substantial rake, I got a set of springs from a friends dad who was scrapping a Malibu wagon. Free so i grabbed them. Now I think they will be history , I want it to ride level. Last is the frame after all the sand blasting, repaint and reassembly. I have more photos but they are all on film. Oh yeah, did I mention I procured a 1971 455 out of an Olds 98. Maybe put it in the Cutlass? Not sure , I loved the 350 back when I was driving it everyday. Who knows , It's under the bench just in case.

 

Nice to see some of the 80's coming out and getting restored . They can be done up to be nice street/strip cars as well as cruisers. The newer interior will be a plus once you get back into it .
I'm sure it was a whole different car going from the 260 to the 350 with the 4 speed auto. You running stock rear gears ?
That 455 will make that car a blast with a killer suspension to keep it going straight haha.
Lots of inspiration here since many of us are constantly working away on our Olds

It woke right up with the 350 installed, it quickly wiped out the original TH350. After the 3:73 gears and a the TH700R4 swap it ran really strong. Still hope to rebuild the 455 down the road but no plans for it right now, am finishing up a full tilt kitchen remodel that has wiped me out financially.

Thanks for the welcome, but this is a very old thread that was bumped up. The 455 looks like it's coming along nicely, very cool.

As embarrassing as it is, I have nothing to report on my 80' Cutlass except acquiring a few parts now and then for it. Was thrilled to find a set of OEM grills for it over last winter, still in the GM boxes. The badges are all OEM as well. In search of a set of headlight bezels now, having no luck.

Good to hear you managed to grab some OEM parts for you 80 Olds and still in the hobby since the original post in 2010 ,
Good post thou Jeff , if anyone else searches this thread up in the future, they will see just how nice an 80 cutlass looks in white !

Welcome Mike! Here below is a Picture of my "1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham" that I owned for 3 years before selling on eBay back in June of this year.

 

That's a beautiful car, not many that nice around anymore. Was it restored, or a low mileage survivor?

 

Thanks Mike! Yes, it was a low mileage survivor, I bought it on eBay, it came from the original owners in Oregon with 59,000 original miles, I just went thru it and refreshed it and changed a few things on it to make it my on. Now I am working on a 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

Yes this car is a survivor as well. This car was sold new right here in Danville, VA. at Swanson Motors Inc. Oldsmobile - Cadillac, the man that purchased the car was a head mechanic there and he special ordered the car for himself, he worked there for 48 years, he passed away in 2017 and I purchased the car from his Estate Sale. I have all of the documentation that came with the car, it only has 45,000 original miles on it. I love getting these cars with a great story behind them as well as being a survivor!

You sure know how to find them, Pat, wow! There aren't many originals kicking around this neck of the woods with all the salt on the roads in the winters. The only story I have for my car is it was bought 2 years old by my Dad with 30K miles on it. I was a teen at the time and fell in love with it, so I cared for it for my Dad, washed, waxed, shampoo'd the interior etc. and after a short stint in my older brother's possession I bought it for $1200 in 86'. My Dad co-signed for a loan with me and I started making payments on it when I was 15 years old mowing lawns and pumping gas at a station near by.

 

Awesome story Mike! Its cool that it has been in your family since 1982. I had a newspaper route when I was a teen to buy my 1st car it was a 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS, this was in 1987-1988.

 

Don't get me wrong, I'd have loved to snag a 65' GTO Tri Power that I dragged my Dad to look at out in CT. He went along but squashed the deal when he saw it was a 4 speed car, I neglected to mention that. Then we looked at a 78' Firebird with a 301 poncho V8 and a three speed manual, he quashed that as well. So the Cutlass came available and it was mine. I was hanging around with a group of guys with Nova and Chevelle SS's, want to talk about the black sheep of the group. lol
