Return to rockets

Hello,
Just wanted to do a brief intro of myself. Chris McClure from Slippery Rock Pa. I just recently bought a 69 350 Rocket with a TH400 trans to begin a resto project. After a long 20 year bender on Mopar I just couldn't resist the idea of building an Olds mill for a later vehicle. I was sold at the #5 heads! Lol It's an original 54k mile untouched 2 barrel motor that spins freely. So I'm here to read and gather a few parts.

Welcome. FYI, the original trans in that 69 would have been either a Jetaway two speed for an early car, or a TH350 for a car built later in the model year. The TH400 wasn't used behind the small block in the Cutlass line. Good luck with it.

Yeah I'm starting with a motor and trans. My plan is nothing spectacular. Just a stock bottom end with Mahle piston and ring pack. Big valves in the heads with basic porting. Low speed torque motor. Set it up in a '60-'66 Chevy C-10 '60s style mild custom hot rod. No offense to anyone here.

Great use, I had two Olds powered trucks. I had a 78 1/2 ton with an Olds 307 then Olds 350. I then moved the Olds 350 which had 307 5A heads and a 204/214 cam to replace the knocking sbc 350, even kept the factory TBI in the 94 Z71 I bought off my in laws. It was a way better truck below 4000 rpm than any LS powered truck, same trans and gearing. I had a circulating block heater burn it to the ground. I have my eye out for a non rotten 88 to 95 and have an Olds motor for it as well. Welcome and good luck.

Thank you! It'll take some time to sort out motor mounts for the earlier Chevy truck chassis.

We just cheated and welded the B body frame mounts on the 78. For the 94 we used the sbc clam shell bottom with 403 second gen Trans Am mounts. My friend had a 65 with a sbc 350 transplanted and the 3 on the tree converted to the floor. He blew second gear twice. With the TH400 you can beat the heck out of it and no worries. It has been 30 years since looking under the hood. This style might work with regular Olds rubber mounts. I came across them on Ebay.
