I've always liked 1978-1980 2 door Cutlass bought one last year have slowly been gathering parts. I almost have the garage ready for it.I enjoy the idea of 350 and 455 olds under the hood.[stock motors were a joke ]I've got a 350 Olds with #5 heads I've started work on.Anyone with similar projects I'd like too hear about them.Ideas,parts sources etc.

you'll love the 350, I originally built a 1980 cutlass about 15 yrs ago, yanked the 260 and rebuilt a mostly stock 70 350 w performer cam and intake, don't recall the head type. dual exhaust, a bit of throttle body work in the trans and a 373 rear end. I loved it, was really fun to drive and sounded awesome. I ended up selling it due to starting a family a few years later.

I just picked up another 80, same color w a 69 455 and th400 trans, hoping I can spin the motor over as it hasn't run in 8 yrs. after running a 350 I cant wait to see how the 455 will perform. I wont be selling this one....

I just sold my '80 Cutlass Calais. I lost interest in it when I acquired my '69. I still have a set of headers for a SBC g-body and a jegster 700-R4 crossmember if you guys know anyone that might be interested in them. I had a 305 TPI and a 700-R4 from an '87 Firebird Formula sitting around that I was going to throw in it, but I sold the drivetrain separately.
I still like the 78-80's, I just only have time and room for one project, and the 69 won. Good luck guys!

I've always wanted a '78 - '79 260V8-equipped Supreme or Calais to put a stock 403 into. Maybe the right car will turn up someday.

I have a '70 but always liked the line of the '78-'80. I'd like one a little lowered in front with some wide tires at all four corners and one of these hoods on it.

Add a healthy small block, either 350 or 403, with a 200R4 and a mid 3 posi and you have a real nice car you can drive anywhere.

This is one of the most famous hungarian Oldsmobiles. This car is a "Kundi-kombi". 455 V8, drag and burn out. It's a perfect car!

I have a 80 cutlass special edition stainless steel roof (landau) not many around v6 may upgrade later to 8 only 71000 miles I am the 3rd owner needs a rear bumper and paint very solid body .

Ive got a 79 Cutlass parts car that has a 260 in it ( not running, I took the Alternator/etc. brackets off for my 72 350). Its the Minty Greenish color as well as the interior but has good fenders bumpers hood and trunk lid. It has a bench seat and was a A/C car. Tilt steering wheel......

I wasnt aware they made an 80 442!!!! HOLY CRAP I WANT ONE TOO!!!!
I am about to start my resto on my first car, an 80 cutlass supreme, 260 cid, th-350 and 2.29 rear end, yikes. I found a 78 with a sbc 305 and a 200 metric trans that is very cleen, all oem too.

I am having a hard time finding replacement parts though. dangit, good luck all.

My very first car was a 78 Supreme. It was totaled in accident back in the late 80's otherwise I'd still have it. I bought an 86 Brougham a few years later and ended up selling it due to a "reputable chain" transmission shop screwing me over on a transmission job which led to a few rebuilds that finally sealed the deal on me selling it.

Fast forward to June 2011, I acquired an original 79 Supreme with the original drive train (V8 260). It's my daily driver and needs a fuel tank and new paint, although it runs and drives as is. It's on my restoration list but not at the top spot, that goes to my 77.

Hello, new here. I thought i was the only one that loved these cars. Was talking to a few people and all they said was get a Camero or Chevelle. Just picked mine up down south for $2500. It is a 79 Calais with buckets and a 260 mtr. The interior seats are pretty shot but the rest of the interior is not bad. The undercarriage and body is really clean no rust. Going to restore it with a 455 400 trans with a 8.5 rear instead of the 7.5.
Let me know if i was ripped off or was a good deal. What i have been reading is that the real problem is the headers in the g body. Could really use some info on this. Its great getting involved working on cars again meeting great people.

The Cutlass with the stainless roof ,I remember these from years ago.I also remember seeing Monte Carlo and Regals with these roofs also.

Hey finman04 that's a great buy.1979 has the best looking front end of all g-bodys in my opinion.As far as headers go I have a rocket 350 so headers are no problem if I want to go that route.The guys on the g-body forum would know about headers with that combo if anyone does.I think a couple of guys over there have done this swap in in a g-body Cutlass.

Hey there newbie, welcome. I think it looks great, I think it was a decent deal for that area. I see it has the ralley pack instrument cluster (I am looking for one for my cutty). I know the 260 is a week motor, as is my OEM 260cid, but i have found it has only 7.5/1 compression and some one put a 4 barrel intake and carb and it helped a little, i am toying with the idea to increase the compression and intake just to see the results.
I did put headers on my 80 with a 350cid (bopc) and it was tight on the left side (had to smush a tube to fit), may have been the brand of headers, that was also in 96 I think. I dont think you would have a difficult time to find a set that would work out for ya.

Not too crazy about the look of the 1980 Cutlass, but I LOVE the 78-79 Cutlass. (and I was born in 1977 )

Can't find one around here in decent shape for a price I'm willing to pay. Found one for $750 once and drove past it and it looked horrible. Sad too because it had a 260 in it (easy swap)

I like the 78-85 Delta 88's better anyway Working on my 2nd one now

I just picked it up a couple of weeks ago. They had plans on mounting 20's on the car but, they decided to sell it after they added over sized springs that look like bananas in there. Looking in redoing the whole suspension with the extra weight of the 455 going in.

From what i have been reading is that the height displacement from the 307 to the 455 is 1.30 inches. Some sites say to use the same engine mounts of the 307, I have the 260 in mine right now, would this work? I also read to use the 455 mounts instead of the the 307. If you use the 307 mounts it keeps everything in the same alignment. I added two different articles but which one is correct. Need some help here please.

Small Block to Big Block

This entails swapping an Olds 400, 425 or 455 big block in place of the existing Olds 260, 307, 330, 350 or 403 small block.
Un-bolt the 350, remove the 350 motor mounts, install 455 motor mounts, and then in-bolt the 455. Everything fits, and when you're done, if you keep the 350 decals, no one short of an Olds expert will notice the difference. If you have a 350 and want to change to a 400, 425 or 455 you can use the 350 motor mounts, only drawback is the engine will set at least 1 inch higher than normal. The other option is to use 400, 425 or 455 frame mounts with the matching motor mounts and the engine will set normal. You will not need to drill holes for the BB frame mounts. They are direct bolt in. The 350 mounts only pose a problem with hood to aircleaner clearance. If you run a stock intake, no problem. If you use a Torqer or Performer than you may have trouble


OLDS SMALL BLOCK V8 to BIG BLOCK V8 SWAP:
The main thing to remember here, is that as far as external parts are concerned, the only difference between the small blocks and big blocks is that the heads moved up and out 1.3". The camshaft centerline, the water pump location, and the motor mount locations do not move.
If your donor engine is a Toronado engine, you may need to swap the oil filter mounting pad with one from a 350 or 307. Use the steel frame mounts and the rubber motor mounts for a G-body with a 307! Do not use earlier A-body or other mounts! This is the most common mistake people make! If you do not use the G-body steel and rubber motor mounts, the engine placement will not be correct, and you will create numerous other problems.

Had a co-worker with a 78(ish) H/O it was really nice till it burnt to the ground. Always liked them. If one came along I'd ****** it up.
But I'm not looking, that gets me in trouble.
