timing gear
Thanks so much for the quick reply. I don't know if it's been replaced or not but definitely need to check. I had no compression and one of the cylinders and the push rod was bent and the exhaust valve was open. I was told to check into my timing gear! The car has been in storage and hasn't been started in 6 years. Unfortunately I was told the story that isn't true so it's up to me to make this car right again. Thank you for all your help😁
The timing gear failure would not cause a bent push rod or valve as this engine is a non interrupted type motor. Though the gear may be worn or even jumped a few teeth the valves won't (can't) reach the pistons tops. Bent valves and torn up pistons are common failure in the newer timing belt over head cam type engines. That's probably where your friend got his idea of a bad timing gear. Though the timing gear is worth a look at I think your problems are some where else..... Tedd
