Newbie from Austin TX
Greetings,
I have used this forum as a guest since last November and always appreciate the wealth of knowledge and community insight. So I decided to join.
Current projects on my 64 cutlass are - replace Horn Relay (discovered phantom draw); figure out the fuel gauge pegging problem (already replaced sending unit and checked continuity at the unit end - checks out OK) - dash gauge still pegging past full.....
Stuff I have done since November when we got the car (we = my son and me - project car and his first auto...daily driver for school)
1 - brake system overhaul
2 - replaced fuel tank
3 - new shocks
4 - added cooling system expansion tank
Lots of fun - I look forward to learning more.
Best,
Dave

Welcome aboard.
Cool that you're doing a father son restoration. Great bonding and learning experience for both of you.
Sounds like you have a bad ground on your fuel system. Check the ground from the tank to frame, and the ground at the dash. Bad grounds will usually give the symptoms you're describing.

Thanks Allan R and redoldsman
OK - Tank to Frame has continuity. And the wire that connects to the sending unit also checks out. I have a wiring diagram and found the gauge wire up under the dash - but it feeds into a harness and circuit board - and I am not sure how to check the ground at that end. Do I need to pull whole board out?
Thanks,
Dave
PS - yes - Franklin's is awesome if you can stand to wait in line for a few hours....

Welcome to CO, Dave! Great, Father/Son project, and a good lookin' one, at that! Lots of good folks down your way (Austin, SA, Bastrop). Every November all the Texas Olds Clubs show up in Fredericksburg for a great three day weekend. Will try and remember to post about September the dates/times/schedule/things to do, so hopefully y'all can join us! Sometime next Spring, the North Texas Olds Club will once again host our annual Zone Show, again in Granbury. A really great time, with oddles of Oldsmobile's to attract your attention! Again, Welcome!!!
