new to this site and the olds family

Good day all, my name is Donovan. My wife Gina and I live in Spicewood TX (SW of Austin) and wanted to do something different. Hence the purchase of a 56 olds holiday. It has a seized 324 in it, but we are going to pull it and see if we can rebuild. I will have many questions soon enough, so any help will be appreciated. We just got the front end off two days ago. Front quarter panels next, then we will pull the engine. We are so happy this site is up and are looking forward to making new friends in the community!

Welcome. There is a forum here Vintage Oldsmobiles where you may also want to introduce yourself which caters to Vintage Oldsmobiles. Several members here on CO are quite knowledgeable regarding your car. Good luck w/ your project.

If you are not already aware, Kanter and Egge Machine are resources for parts for older Oldsmobiles.

Welcome aboard. If you don't know a stuck first generation Oldsmobile can be a serious problem when it comes to separating the transmission from the engine when a piston or pistons are stuck. The crank must be able to rotate in order to get to the flexplate bolts and usually the rod bolts can't be reached unless the crank is rotated. If you are lucky the stuck pistons are at the bottom of the stroke and the bolts/ nuts can be reached if not then the mains and rods must be loosened and the crank removed with the flexplate attached as a unit. Sounds easier than it is.

If mine I would try my very best to unstick the offending pistons before I would attempt to separate the trans from the engine otherwise pull them both together (trans and engine)and work on them together on the floor where they are easier to get to and work on. Been there done that..... Lost in the fifties Tedd

Welcome Donovan. You are only about 20 miles from me. Small world. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the 50 cars but here's wishing you good luck fellow Texan!
Post up some pics when you get the chance.
