New here...
(stands) hello all, my name is Charlie.... And I'm an autoholic. It's been only a few hours since I last scoured eBay for car parts and PayPal'ed $ better spent on my house. And I haven't told my wife yet (good thing she's a car gal). As a lifelong chevelle enthusiast, I was coerced into a nifty little 62 Cutlass F85 back in 09. My wife wanted a convertible but would not have any of my suggestions for early chevelles or novas. As a joke I sent her this ad for a 62 F85 convertible (super clean!) but with the ugliest lowrider wheels and tires. She went nuts for it. I said "It's your deal, you make it. I don't want any part of it". She cleans house on that deal and the car turned out to be an immaculate, albeit older beautiful full restoration (with the exception of the hideous wheel/tire combo). The owner prior had done the restoration in 1988. Glad we saved it. Fast forward to 2017 and the little convertible F85 has been my test bed for several efforts on my other projects. Body-on-frame guys don't know just how easy they got it, i think. The auto trans proved to be the junk we all know it to be. In went a 700r4 w/D&D adapter. The 215, while smooth and snappy, absolutely did NOT like southern Arizona summers. As the mechanic from the Road Warrior says, "this is history... Woulda been a shame to blow it up." So out it comes and in goes an LS1. Four years of that combo and my wife says real muscle cars have to be shifted MANUALLY. So now she's got a T5 backing that LS that went in this weekend. "Max" (Maxine, or Blue Max for tough guys) will always be with us. She's a keeper. Odd, my chevelle is still in pieces in milk crates, and I tore it down the same year we got the Olds. Does that make me an Olds guy? Anyway, nuff storytelling. I saw this site today and came across some really good info so I had to join. I look forward to gleaning and communicating and telling lies about how good at cars I am.
Wheels and tires sure change a profile.
Chevelles... Pfft.
