Kai, that is a pretty and well-optioned car.

I can see:

Autronic Eye, which is an automatic headlight dimmer- the pod at the left side of the steering wheel. I can't tell you how the 50s version of it works, but if the car comes with an owner manual it should explain.

Steering wheel mounted clock. It winds itself as the steering wheel is turned.

Compass- mounts in the normal clock location if car has the steering wheel clock

There are 50s guys here, and also at www.aaca.org who can answer your questions.

yes, i know. and i`ve learned, that the clock must be very rare.
it has also the original rocket engine (i think with the heavy duty air filter), the hydramatic and i hope it has a power steering

and for sure it comes with an original owners manual. also i ordered original brochures from 1952 and a brochure about the autronic eye

You didn't pay for that via Western Union, by chance?

Maybe the seller is "at sea" but will have the car shipped to you no problem as soon as your payment is received?

Wonder what that is on the floor? It looks like an oil press/amp/water temp gauge?

Welcome aboard, That air cleaner is called a batwing and is a desirable hotrod item in the states, I can't see a power steering pump on your car so I doubt if it has power steering.I'm not sure that power steering was even a option in 52...Lost in the fifties ...Tedd

1952 was the first year power steering was offered but it didn't take off for a couple of years. Don't worry, that bigass steering wheel will make it reasonably easy to drive unless you get into very tight slow speed turning. Then you will build arm muscles...

which air cleaner?

this site: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1950-1953-oldsmobile3.htm

says:
Also new for 1952 was GM Saginaw power steering, a $185 option that would soon be as popular as Hydra-Matic. Two other new extras didn't go over nearly as well: a 15-jewel, self-winding Marr watch mounted on the steering wheel, yours for $35; and GM's gimmicky "Autronic Eye" automatic headlamp dimmer. Still available at extra cost were oil filter (you read right), heavy-duty air cleaner, turn signals, full wheel covers, radio, and a compass

This air cleaner is called the batwing and Rocketrader is correct 52 was the first year for power steering .In this thumbnail picture of your engine a pot that is the reservoir for the power steering would be on the left side of the engine and it is not there so it's doubtful if this car is equipped with that option....Tedd

PS. nice looking 52, wish it were mine.

Looks like a really nice car. Love the original color scheme. My '53 doesn't have power steering and, as others have said, no worries. Even without power steering these cars drive wonderfully. Can be a little tough turning tight when you are barely moving but still very manageable.

most cars i had yet where without power steering, so i don`t need it.
but would have been great if my car would be fully equipped...

i also bought a suicide **** `cause i think it`d look really cool in such a car and i think it could help turning

Welcome Kai very nice car where in Germany are you from. I have been to Germany many times on business my favorite country outside the US good luck parking that beast you will need two parking spaces. Is this car subject to your yearly inspections. Good luck with your new ride.

I live near Stuttgart What do you mean with yearly inspections? TUEV?

I don't think that I get many problems with parking... Such a car you can park wherever you want

I live almost in the black forest. Oh yes, Stuttgart is cool. Some weeks ago I spent I night there with some friends having a lot of beer and a hangover the next day

And yes, every car has to go to the inspections every two years. But I think it should be no problem, so far.

Kai I will be in Zell which is east of Offenburg I think you are on the other side of the black forest. The last time in this area we went to Ortenberg for the Christmas market.

Yes, that's right. I'm on the other side. Do you know Calw? That is where I live.

Nice! If you (or anyone else) are looking for a trusted source of original classic car literature try Walter Miller's AutoLit store ... www.autolit.com. He also maintains a store on eBay at http://stores.ebay.com/Walter-Miller...uck-Literature

I've purchased from him many, many times helping my dad to expand his collection over the years. Only one time did a brochure disappoint (there was some doodling on the pages which Walter hadn't noticed) and he immediately issued the partial refund I requested.
