New to forum

I am a very proud owner of classic 56 oldsmobile holiday for about a month now. I had been searching for over a year for the right classic car for me, and found this car and fell in love. This 56 oldsmobiles had me hooked! The car is in great shape so all the work that I am doing is upgrades to make it perfect for cruising this coming spring. My list is as follows in order of priority any thoughts on best places to look for these component, and do's and dont's are appreciated.

1) Seat belts (Currently does not have them and since my children 12 & 14 will be riding in the car I think this is a must).
2) Replace old vacuum wiper motor to electric
3) Lastly I had planned of replacing the drum brakes in the front to disc breaks. The breaks currently are in great shape and after what research I found they do not make a direct conversion for this car. I plan on keeeping the "Olds" as stock as possible so i am not interested in doing any major alterations to perform this upgrade. So i have struck this one of the list as of now.

Thanks Barry

Welcome to Classic Oldsmobile. Great to see another nice mid fifties car. There's a post on here called '54-'56 Owners Unite, where you will be able to see other cars of these models. Most mid fifties owner use the Vintage Section ,so that's where you will read the most about them. Any questions, just ask ,you will find answers and some very knowledgeable folks here, always willing to help. Larry

A beautiful car! I know what you mean about drum brakes - my '68 is drums all around and it takes some getting used to them. My '69 has disc in front and it's a world of difference. However, I'm not changing my '68 to disc as I rarely drive the car beyond 50 miles to a show or a day on the road. If your drums are in good shape, as you say they are, and you aren't planning on any big road trips, I'd consider just leaving them as they are and get used to they way they feel and react. They served their purpose in the day and I figure mine will still serve they purpose I need them too in this day.

A very pretty car...it looks like it's been well taken care of! Welcome to this site!

Welcome to the group... Nice find, sure you will enjoy it... As for drum brakes, still have them on my 66-442, definitely doesn't stop on a dime...

Thanks for the welcome to the site! I appreciate the advice as I don't want to mess anything up on this car.

My '64 D88 is still wearing the drums it came with and while it doesn't stop like disc brakes do, I carefully choose my routes and surroundings. Congratulations on your acquisition!

My 65 still wears it's original drums and while the do feel "different " from discs I'm amazed at how good they actually work.

Berry one of the problems of a drum to disk conversion on mid fifties Oldsmobile's is the Treadle Vac booster will not support the new disk brake systems so a modern master and booster is needed There isn't a easy way to mount a new master without sticking it someplace non original and obvious. I don't have a problem with drum all around on my car and it travels many miles each year....Tedd

Welcome Barry! Beautiful car.

My '56 is about as original as it can be, with drum brakes. They are no problem. As Brian noted above, I also choose my routes and surroundings.

Welcome! That is an awesome car! I think I saw it or one like it on Hemmings recently. Definitely a find!

Here are some places to look for seatbelts. I'm considering ordering from Retro Belt.
