442 bumper

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum, and as a matter of fact, completely new to the whole Oldsmobile thing. I am very fluent in the world of Mopars, but was able to strike a deal on a 1970 442 just recently. It is in need of a total restoration and does not have the original motor. That wasn't a big deal for me. It did come with a Cutlass donor car, a 455 that needs rebuilt, a turbo 400, and ALOT of extra misc. parts. I just enjoy working on cars. Anyway, being completely new to this side of the car hobby, I have a huge amount to learn. This looks to be a valuable source for information, parts, and restoration tips.
One of the first things I noticed, was the difference between the rear bumpers on the 442 and the parts car. They are definitely different. Although I will not be doing a concours restoration, more like a restomod, I would like to stick close to original on the body parts and outward appearance. Am I correct about the rear bumper? What other major differences should I pay attention too? I'm sure that covers a very broad spectrum, but any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much!
Rob

Welcome. The rear cutout bumper is correct for the dual exhaust on the 442 of that year.
Post up some pics when you get a chance. Hoods on the Supreme are different from
the 442 and Cutlass S as well.

You've come to the right place. The folks here really know their Oldsmobiles.
I started tinkering with Cutlass and 442 A-bodies about five years ago. Once I found this site I knew I had found an encyclopedia of Oldsmobile information. Anytime I have a question I search here first. And usually my questions are answered here first.
Welcome to the site.

Welcome. Every single 1970 442 built by Oldsmobile came with a rear bumper that looked like this.

I would also suggest that the very first thing you buy for your car is an original Chassis Service Manual and Fisher Body Manual. Don't waste your time with reprints or electronic copies. All of these are scans of an original and detail always gets lost in the process.

Thank you for the information. I'm on the hunt for a chassis manual now.
