1973 oldsmobile 98 rear bumper & front bumper bars
Hi,
I am looking for the above part, it is a four door car and I'm based in the UK so would need detailed photos if anyone has one. I want a good one as I have the original but it's rotted in the bottom section.
I am actually missing the two front bumper bars also.
Cheers

Below is a diagram out of the factory service manual of the front bumper on the full-size '73 Oldsmobile. I don't know what you mean by "two" front bumper bars. The outer, visible part of the bumper is called the "bar." There is a reinforcement piece behind this and a rubber "insert" that runs along the length of the bumper and is needed to hold the whole thing together as can be seen by the two bolts at either end that are held by "nut (16)" in the diagram.

I think what you're referring to are the two vertical "bumper guards", as Oldsmobile called them, that were a $16 option on any full-size Olds. That your car is a Regency is irrelevant.
This '73 Delta 88 has them. Like anything else body/trim related for the full-size Oldsmobiles, replacements will have to come from a donor car. Good luck.

By the way, you say you're "missing" the two bumper guards. Are you sure they're actually missing, or were they never there in the first place? As noted, they were an option, so not all full-size Oldsmobiles, including not all 98s (including the green 98 in my earlier post), would have come with them.

Hi,
I am actually still waiting for the car to arrive but going from the photos, it does look like it has them missing due to locating holes in the position as per your photo. This a photo of my car that I've just bought and waiting it to be shipped to me in the UK.
Cheers

For one thing, those bumper guards are not easy to remove. The bumper itself has to be removed, and that's no small task. It would seem unlikely that someone would go through the trouble to remove them unless they were rusty or damaged, but then I would expect the bumper itself to show some of these same signs. But that bumper looks just fine.
I predict that when you finally see this car in person, you'll discover that the car came from the factory without them.

Cheers, hopefully I'm wrong as this means less money to spend. I've just bought new rear bumper fillers and a licensed CD copy of the chassis manual which I will print out (saved on shipping costs), I'm hoping I can repair the rear bumper and maybe do a silver powder coat on it all if I can't find one somewhere for it as re chroming costs are a lot!
I just hope the car is as described when it arrives though, it is meant to have the usual rust in rear screen so thinking I may repair it and possibly do nice paint job on the roof?

Just looked at the photo on the original advert and it is missing I think them because it has holes in the bumper on the front edge located where shown on above photo plus the rubber strip is not one continuous but looks like three pieces

Hi,
Not sure if you got that message but if not, I think these photos should be clearer and you can probably point out other areas for me to worry about and budget for! Thankyou in advance for any help

You might be right. It does look like there are some notches in the rubber strip at the locations where the guards would have been. It would be interesting to know why they were removed on a car that otherwise looks to be in very good condition.

This onw means more money but you have to expect it! I can only guess someone had them for something else or even fitted spotlamps but who knows. Would you know where I can find them along with the rear bumper? Cheers

Not offhand. They'll have to come from donor cars. The front bumpers changed every year during that era (1971 to 1976) of body style, so I assume that any bumper guards for your car will have to come from another full-size '73 Oldsmobile.
I'm pretty sure the rear bumper for the '73 98's was unique for that year as well, so a rear bumper will have to come from another '73 98. Delta 88s of the same year had a different rear bumper.
Being in the U.S., I would search for parts like this using an online used parts search engine like this:

there are others that will turn up if you google "used auto parts." If any junkyards in their database have the part you're looking for, it will turn up in the results.

While I have had success finding parts like this, the results that you get are sometimes out of date. You have to call the vendors which show as having your part to verify that they do actually have it and to arrange payment and shipping.
I remember finding a part like this once, only to call the vendor and have the guy tell me that they had just sent the car on which the part was located to the crusher "last week." I was heartbroken.
