my dream car

I fell in love with the Cutlass when was about 6 years old. My dad’s friend had a 72 S in Saddle Brown and I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen.

We all moved away from each other but later moved back and the same friend still had his 72 but his Stepson had found one as well, 72 in Saddle brown.

We moved again and my dad found his 72 in Saddle brown and he loved it but a couple years later a moron with no insurance rear ended him and totaled his.

My older brother wound up finding a 71 supreme (custom color) that he later sold to my parents then he picked up a 68 442 in black.

cruising Autotempest.com 2 days before the first anniversary of my Dad passing and 3 days before my 15th wedding anniversary, I found my 72 Cutlass S.

It took a bit to get to me from a tiny town in Virginia but it’s in my garage and it’s everything I hoped it would be. Had to make a few tweaks but that’s owning a almost 50 year old car. This is what it looks like now.

The only thing that sucks is the one person I wanted to tell the most about the car (my Dad) I couldn’t. Luckily, I’m still in contact with the friend of his that inspired my love for these cars and it was a great feeling to tell him.

I think the coolest part of the car hobby is hearing stories like this. What it was at some particular point in your life that made a car 'talk' to you. How that stays with you. Congratulations on getting what you always wanted. I'd like to think that your Dad may have had some part to play in that.

I like to think my Dad sent the car to me. My dream garage has always included this car, others have changed but this was always the one I had to have and my wife was super cool about it. I went to kiss her goodbye before I left for work(waking her up @5am) and told her about it. She told me right away to call and get it. Since it was on Craigslist I was nervous about it being a scam. She looked at me when I finally parked it in the garage and said, “it wasn’t a scam”.

Nice car and I too love your back story. My first olds was a 72 Cutlass S that I bought at the age of 19. I loved that car. Olds really had there ducks in a row back then. Welcome to the forum.

I've been dealing with this for a month and a half now, and reading your post today, of all days, on my Dad's birthday, really hit me in the feels.

Totally cool backstory! Too bad you are unable to share your ride with your Dad in "real time."
