Introduction with a '67 442 and a need for a bit of help
Hi,
so I'm fixing up a friend's 442 that he just inherited. the guy that built it was into drag racing and built the car as such. my friend is just looking to drive the thing and put some miles on it.
here she is:
it isn't numbers matching and the interior is a mis-match of parts from that era, but if you aren't judging it for concourse points, it's a nice clean car that drives quite well.
I've since replaced the carb with throttle body fuel injection since he isn't really good at keeping up with a carb. the tune is all done and now it starts and drives great.
the last issue holding him back from driving it regularly is the 4.33 gears. that's when the trouble started and i discovered the "type o" axle. so the 3.08 gears i ordered for a gm 8.5 don't fit.
so now the car has a rear end apart and i need the right posi carrier to place 3.08 gears and the 3.08 gears also. 2.78 gears and posi would also be great but 3.08 would be much better.
can anyone help me? I'm in fort wayne, IN and i'm willing to drive quite a bit this weekend to get the stuff.
monzaz has already indicated he has a 3.08 posi available. I'd rather just pick up everything from one place, but if you just have 3.08 gears that would also work.
Thanks everyone!
(and i must admit, driving this thing around really makes me want one myself so who knows what the future holds)

Hmmm.... I have some entire differential units on hand. perfect for you is a 2.73 posi but it's in the car and kind of buried right now. Alas, the rest of the handier units are not posi. fearthisrocket in Flint MI may have something that will work for you.
Or try this guy
Phil
989..640.0331
Mid-MI area, 4-5 hr drive from you.

I tried giving Phil a call, he wasn't answering. I'll try later. I also messaged fearthisrocket to see what he has.
where are you located, is the 2.73 (or is it 2.78?) something i could help you move things around to get? i don't mind if the buying expedition involves a few hours of shuffling things and helping pull things out to get to it.
it's getting to the driving season and he really wants to drive the car.
Thanks!

Pretty car. Here's a suggestion. Keep the 4.33 gears and install an overdrive trans. You didn't indicate if the car is an automatic or manual, but if it's AT, a 200-4R has a 0.68:1 OD. That turns the 4.33 gears into 2.94:1 gears.
