I sadly obtained my dads car

Hello everyone. My name is katt miller.
And I have been an Oldsmobile lover since my birth.
I was brought home from the hospital the day I was born in my moms Gold 1970 cutlass supreme convertible. I remember being a kid in elementary school and kids would make fun of my moms “bucket” or “boat” by kids my age, only for their dads after school to come up to me and my mom and yell at their son for not knowing what my moms car was and how cool it really was. (To be honest she didn’t take the best care of it. It was a bucket. But my dad had put a 455 in it and and smoked most new cars on the green lights on my way to school)

My dad had a 1970 Oldsmobile 442
and our plan was to restore it together someday when I was old enough.
And as I became an adult and got more into cars. My fiancé and I put our effort into his challenger (2014) and turned his car into a WideBody, upgraded6 piston brembos, changed to the srt knuckles and spindles, upgraded headlights taillights, drill matched for flares, things I was excited to share with my dad, and unfortunately before I could show my dad what my fiancé and I had learned and completed (we are self taught) he unfortunately passed away on November 21, 2021. He had suffered a brain aneurysm in 2012 and stroke, and was never the same.
I find Comfort now knowing he is at peace and no longer struggling to its his demons.

how ever we never got to work on cars together. And he died right after his first granddaughter was born, so he unfortunately never met her, or her younger brother who was born on march 23 2023.

sorry for the long back story, but I felt it was necessary when I ask my next question.

I inherited my dads 1970 Oldsmobile 442
and I want to know more about the car.
I believe it is a w30? But am not completely sure.
and it is basically a rolling chassis, the 455 that was in it was stolen, I know it had a hurst shifter, a spoiler, AC, power windows, disc brakes, air grabber hood , was a 4speed

the vin is 344870Z12967
i know that y’all can be kind of savage on here at times, so please be kind 😅 I’m just a girl trying to restore her dads beloved car.

Any info about this old beauty would be much appreciated.

thank you in advance
-Katt Miller

My condolences to you and your family. No cruelty here but the by the VIN has a Z which is a Fremont California. All W machine and Hurst/Olds will have a M in the VIN which is Lansing, MI which I live near by and my dad and uncle worked for Olds.

The VIN does prove that is a real 442 which still a very nice car to have. My thoughts are to keep it for yourself as tribute/keepsake of your dad.

Regards,
Pat

That is a very touching story, your Father is very proud of you to follow in his foot steps. I admire you, being a young Lady to keep his car in the family

Welcome to Classic Oldsmobile. I too express my condolences for your loss. I am glad you seem to be at peace knowing he is not in pain. 🙏 Good luck on working on his car. Love to see more pictures. If you can post the body tag. It is under the hood on the firewall top right. That will tell you more about the car. Thank you for sharing your story. I hope we can all be of help to you.

Sorry to hear about your dad. The "Z" in the VIN shows this to be a Fremont,CA built car, so it isn't a real W30 (which were only built in the Lansing, MI plant). The good news is that there is a high likelihood that the build sheet is in the car, possibly on top of the gas tank.

That is a sad story and sorry for your loss. Good luck getting the car back on the road.
Curious though, how did the engine get stolen? I guess you're lucky they didn't just steal the whole car.
Welcome to the site.

Welcome to CO.
Cool story Katt. Nice car & color. I like the fact the stripes aren't painted on the Oldsmobile option code "W25 outside air induction hood"( AKA OAI hood). IMO keep it that way. Less is more and older is better...(the car).

Do you have the matching air cleaner assembly which mates to the underside of the hood?

Engines missing? Maybe toss in a modern 6.2, 6-speed Mopar Hemi with a Dana 60... lol. Dont think that's been done yet. Of course, we will try to talk you out of that as a proper Olds 455 wouldn't suck.

There are a few savages here that forget we are here to help, learn and be friendly. This is all they got so we ignore it unless it gets out of hand.
Compared to most other blog sites we pride ourselves on lower levels of testosterone and higher IQs.

Ask away.
See the classified section here for buying/selling parts. A few guys here have hoards of parts.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. What part of the world do you live? Plenty of fellow here have parts. The 455 you need for it will have to have
the crankshaft drilled for a pilot bearing or there are some cheaper ways that it has been done for an automatic transmission crank 455.
Welcome to CO and good luck with your new dream. As far as I'm concerned, the 70 442 is THE muscle car.

Sorry for your loss Katt.
I am confused though, you say that you and your fiance worked on your Dad's car in 2014 and turned it I to a "wide body" but your Dad never got to see it. Now you said you inherited it and it's basically a rolling chassis without an engine. Could you please clarify.

I think she meant they turned her fiance's Challenger into a wide body, etc.
