Hello from Pittsburgh Pa area

Just picked up a 1978 Cutlass Calais bucket seat console car this week, picked it up to use as my daily driver. i have had several Monte carlo SS and L's models. but this cutlass caught my eye, has the 260 engine so i may throw in a fresh small block, bought this one to drive

Nice looking Oldsmobile. Seeing how it's an Oldsmobile if you need more power find a 307/350/403 small block Oldsmobile engine. Jmo, Ken

Nice looking Cutlass. For a later model, I always liked the body style. Welcome to the site.

Welcome. Nice car. I always like that body style and your looks like a really nice one. I would drop a 350 or 403 in and have a great driver. As long as I was doing it I would probably go with the 403. Keep us up to date as to what you do. There are lots of good folks on here who know a lot and are glad to help. With an Oldsmobile, this is the place to be.

I'm jealous, I always liked the 78-79 A Body Cutlass. They are the only Cutlass I would want to own.

It has a 260? I know you're a Chevy guy, but please keep it all Olds. Any Olds engine would be a straight and easy swap

Looks just like my old 78 Calais except my roof was burgundy! Great driver too. Mine had the Chebby 305 4bbl (yup - back then there was a shortage of Olds engines).

Does it have the rallye gages?

A 307 would handle it nicely, but remember also if you change to a SBO, you'll also have to upgrade that 200 Transmission. It's only built for light duty use mated to that 260 ground rippin burnout king.

I know it's not the same car, but your parts car is the same color scheme as a really nice '84 Calais w/ T-Tops that is on the Pittsburgh Craigslist near I-80 in Emlenton. I'd love to have that one but he's priced just a little too high. Was your parts car out of Washington, PA? I may know who the original owner was. If it's the same car, I lusted over that thing (and the female owner) in the parking lot at work for several summers when I was in college.... ; )

Your '79 looks great - my first Olds was a '79 Supreme that I owned in the late '80s.

Terry
